anyone lese heard this?
apparently jamie bestwick said it in an interview
-
i heard something about that from a mate at the weekend...
something about maybe adding some big ramps to the park course as well?
-
Thats bad news :yahoo_silent:

x games usually drop anything when americans stop getting gold
-
The X games has changed a lot in the last 5 years though and it's trying to be too much.
I always prefered the Gravity Games anyway. :daumenhoch:

Sad but true, The americans can't stand not winning so i suppose it was only a matter of time before this happened !
-
flatland gone, dirt gone, now vert. its only a matter of time before bmx is is dropped (or the x games closes up) if all they are having is park/street. vert is roots of freestyle to me as there's nothing better than watching a good ole vert battle with all the big guns blazing. down to the old do or die motto on some of the crazy moves around now.
-
Jamie Bestwick is now seen as unbeatable in vert as was Mat Hoffman for a time back in the day!!
maybe thats why they're dropping vert ? becoming too predictable??
or maybe they think vert riders are a dying breed?
i hope its not getting dropped though, its the only reason i watch the X Games!!
-
Funny you say about a dying breed....
Down creation of a sunday morning the kids dont go near it..
Every now n then one or 2 of the regulars who talk to us older guys will come and have a mess about but very few get out the top and are really arsed in it.
shame because vert is hardcore.
-
love watching some good vert but i once stood on the deck of the vert ramp in newport and got scared just standing there , fook riding it :-[
-
The trouble is if you`re going to learn to ride vert it takes a lot of time and loads of slams to get any good, thats why they arn`t many, if any, youngsters learning to ride it :idiot2:
-
plus you have to pad right up and thats far from trendy
add the lack of pics in mags that arnt contest pics , most riders want to stay away from the sponsored by a company image
-
Rampworx got rid of their 10ft halfpipe years back... :'(
Stockport ( Bones i think ) took down one half of their halfpipe...
A few out door parks have gotten rid of halfpipes and vert quartres...
I'm not supprized vert riders are a dying breed!!
or maybe park is just more interesting to the new skool than vert is!!
Some kids that i know say the 14ft halfpipes with 2ft vert are just too hard to ride...
so slightly smaller halfpipes would encourage ppl to ride vert i think!!
I know if Rampworx were to put a halfpipe back into the park, it would produce some talented new vert riders!!
-
Thats sucks if its true. BMX Vert was the biggest draw for the x games for a lot of years.
They should show a little respect. Enough riders have sacrificed their bones for that mob.
There is nothing to compare it too. I suppose they'll just go with that big air ramp bollocks.
-
well thats the yanks for ya... they'll be some big arse quartres plonked onto the park course!!
It seems the big corperations are trynig to rule the sport again... isnt that what killed the sport off the 1st time??
X Games must be worth quite a lot to the big wigs???
-
that's the trouble, vert, dead flat 2ft or more of dead flat ;D
the way the tricks and the riding is today is that the new skool can't pull
there tricks from a vert take off and i can see there point,
most of todays big tricks need smooth transitions just to launch them
into there trick, todays tricks are so advanced and it's the take off that determins
these tricks, most new skool riders will shun vert all day, sad but that's the way it's
going :(
-
I'm seeing n/s riders now at parks that avoid all transitions and ride only banks.
-
kids cant drop in to vert !!
i just started bmx rode into the vert at saffy and rode out and kids were like wooooahhhh i thought you said you cant ride.
i explained that dropping in and getting out is only the fooking start and the end!
:O))) :10_2_12:
-

now thats wrong and sad, tell them that's there some good indoor skateparks, all wood,
1/4 pipes, jump boxes, the lot, :)

You will realise its even sadder when I say this is at good indoor all wood parks.
I think what happens is they ride only street and then end up at an indoor park and cant ride transitions because they haven't encountered them on the streets so they ride the terrain there used too which is banks.

I did a disaster few weeks back and was called a Crazy c**t... by a lad who does hand plant airs!! :idiot2:
-
i showed a kid at dunmow how to kickturn. he hadnt seen it before and reckoned it looked the bollox :O)
-
I ride the vert at creation all the time- in fact i'm not that keen on the other ramps (give or take a 1/4).The same for corby yesterday.Vert was great but i dont like jump boxes and seeing kids 'airing' on a ramp that is 4/5 ft high and isnt a full 1/4 just looks wrong to me.More like a bunny hop.Shings is right-even the young regulars at creation who do whips, flips and trix dont go on the vert because
'its too scary mate'[un quote].Good for me cause the ramps always empty!
-
as soon as i learn to air vert again i'm going to ride corby vert all the time :)
-
It's sad when you think that the X games only came out of the BS series run by Hoffman, that was just a vert contest to start with.
-
That sucks big time
watching the vert is always a highlight, its about as extreme as bmx can get, so what if the kids arent as into watching it, from what i gather most kids arent interested in comps at all anyway
wasnt vert going to be in a future olympics??
anyway its only a matter of time before the x-games drops bmx altogether and picks up something new like that urban jumping of walls bollx
the big air is just a specatacle, its just pulling a standard trick over a big jump
at least skaterham are going to keep their vert :daumenhoch:
-

I blame Duke Best.

looks like it's back in :daumenhoch:
X Games 14 Re-Instates Vert
ESPN has decided to continue its 13-year tradition of Vert competitions at
this year's X Games. Over the past month, ESPN has engaged in many
conversations with the X Games BMX and Skateboard Vert athletes in an
attempt to transition the Vert discipline into one featuring a skatepark
course design. While many athletes were initially receptive to the idea,
the majority of them have indicated to ESPN that they would prefer to
compete on a halfpipe.
ESPN will also continue its plans to hold SuperPark as a new discipline for
skateboarding and BMX at the X Games while working with the athletes to
better define exactly how the SuperPark course will be designed.
"The X Games has always had a commitment to the athletes and our consistent
communication with them has allowed us to collectively grow this event to
where it is today," said Chris Stiepock, General Manager, X Games. "In this
particular case the communication took many turns but a consensus by the
athletes has emerged that has lead us to reinstate Vert as an X Games
discipline this year. We will continue to work with the athletes to make
the X Games relevant and successful."
Pro Skateboarder and 14-time X Games medalist, Bob Burnquist, said: "I think
it's great that ESPN will continue to have a Vert contest, and I'm looking
forward to working with them to make sure the Vert competition at the X
Games is the best that it can be."
-
cool :daumenhoch:
-
Thats great news... hope they stick to that!!
although i cant wait to see wot they make of 'Superpark' ??
-
The reason Vert was being dropped originally is that it is mainly 30+ riders that only compete in it. There isn't any real up and coming young vert riders. Once the older ones stop then they'll be no one left to enter.
It's good news that X Games are reinstating it. But for how long? I heard a rumour that LG was also dropping Vert.
I do love watching vert riding. Watching people like Bestwick & Tabron dominate it is fantastic.

How very magnanimous of them......
Fcukers.
How very dare them. Who the fcuk do they think they are to mess around with our sport just because they threw some money at it for a few years. It's not like they did it for love - they got rich too.
BMX was there before them and will be there after them. I dont personally care if there's never another x games, it will have no effect on where/why/how I ride.....
Grrrr.........

i started riding vert at skaterham i really enjoy it need to do it alot more though.
-
Thats the thing about vert, it's a bloody hard slog to get anywhere. Takes ages to get comfortable, then ages to get decent air, then more ages to learn tricks. Thats why there's not many vert riders around, it's too damn hard.
Which is why these media tossers don't have the right to interfere with it...
Just my opinion of course ;D :knuppel2:
-
they can get rid of vert as long as they introduce two bernie vincent quarterpipes directly below a basketball net at either end of a leisure centre somewhere on the outskirts of a town no-one can find, then give each rider one and a half minutes to compete riding to a crappy C60 mix tape of Oingo Boingo being watched by 6 old men in trackky bottoms who award them points on the following categories. 1, style and flow. 2. originality 3. degree of difficulty 4. technicality and 5. good behaviour.
well I'd watch it.... :LolLolLolLol:
