Bit of an Olympic preview show with Gale Emms, Chris Hoy and others. Quite an impressively positive bit on BMX. Not sure if it's available on Podcast but will check.
-
Radio 5, thats not really one of the staitions I listen to a lot :wtf:
-
yeah was flying the flag for bmx racing in the olympics. Luckily they where all for bmx and didnt give me shit about dropping KILO cycle event in favour of bmx.
I am not sure if its available on podcast yet but might be in the next day or so. Check out olympic preview on bbc radio 5 live between 830pm and 9pm. The Mark Saggers show.

Thought the presenter sounded a bit negative at first, but when the various other athletes on the program talked about how professional and dedicated the BMXers were, he seemed to change his tune.

Its 5 minutes into the show :)

They where setting me up for a showdown with Chris Hoy on why his event was dropped in favour of bmx racing. Remember he is a gold medal winner in the kilo and medals mean funding.
Only thing is Chris is really cool and an ex bmxer himself and works with Jamie Staff, Shanaze etc. It was very positive and everyone on the show was into it.
More coverage coming soon.

Yeah, nice interview.
I'm looking forward to the Olympics.
I could never understand how velodrome cycling was included and BMX never was.
How many people have ever cycled in a velodrome? It can't be many and is therefore a niche sport.
BMX had a much wider appeal. Its just a shame that the bottom fell out of it in the Late 80'.
Plus BMX is much better to watch. Its quick and its got action and spills.
I don't understand the IOC dropping other events though.
Has anyone got any links to the track etc, etc?
-
If you mean velo track cycling then i would try the BCF website at http://www.britishcycling.org.uk/web/site/BC/tra/track_latest_news.asp
This will keep you up to date on Shanaze's bid for another world championship in the womens team sprint

Nah, I was more interested in the BMX Track.
Has it been built yet?

Here's a computer generated inage of the plan:

Looks good.
I like the Pagoda type stand.
And that jump over the womans section of track.
Theres no table-top though. Modern tracks just don't have them.
Oh wait I just found one. Its on the womens section just after the turn.
-
And a photo of the track too:

What sort of age groups are racing?
I like to see little'uns all the way to oldies!!!

I really don't know but I just found this video of the Americans training facility in Chula Vista. They've made a replica of the whole track to train on!!!!
