Title: Raleigh's New Burner
Post by: magna13 on March 23, 2008, 10:45 AM
Hi Everyone.

Raleigh Have Done Another Burner, But This One Is My Favorite. Firstly They Brought Us The Team Then They Showed Us The Super Tuff At MK07, Well Now There Giving Us The Mag Burner (The White MK2 Model).

It Is A Nice Looking Bike, But Its A Defo Shame About That Chainwheel   ::) ::)

i thought the team aero pro was a fantastic idea to celebrate
the 25th anniversary but to keep knocking out cheap copies
of the whole range based on the tange frame has cheapened
the original concept  :idiot2: :idiot2: :idiot2:

that was my exsact thought aswell dwain. and as much as i do adore my burners, i think £250 a pop is a bit expensive. i think they should price them the way they did back in the eighties. keep selling the team, super tuff and mag but at different prices.

They must have sold a few to keep knocking them out though.

Plus the Burner name is etched into a minds of parents.

They should be cheaper.   It could turn alot of youngsters into BMXers.

i personally dont think the price is to bad
but they should have just made the TAP as they promised
and left it at that ::) ::)
if that had happened it would have been as special as the
originals, but it looks like the suits have got involved and who
knows where it will end :tickedoff:

Like It did In The 80's?

Most kids started with a Burner.

I think the suits at Raliegh have been waiting all these years for BMX to come into fashion again.

:) I understand the TAP,but think the rest the range are a blatant cash-in.Raleigh`s only interest is purely financial. They have no real interest or care about BMX whatsoever. My local bike shop has had a hard time trying to shift the so called"Burners"that he has.People do come in and look and get all nostalgic, then go "Nah,it`s just a POS".
Title: Re: Raleigh's New Burner
Post by: magna13 on March 23, 2008, 11:33 AM
I Dont Think You Can Call Them A POS But I Think If They Made Abit More Cheaper, Made The Range Wider (Mag 20, Extra, Chromo etc.) And Sold Them In Alot More Stores Then Kids Would Have Them!
Title: Re: Raleigh's New Burner
Post by: moley on March 23, 2008, 11:33 AM
They're too expensive.

If they did a few around £100-150 then they'd probably kick start the craze again.

Yep Thats What I Would Suggest. I Think If They Were That Price, Loads! Of People Would Buy Them!!

Come On Raleigh, Lets Make The AP Burners Cheaper And Sell Them In More Stores Country Wide!  :daumenhoch: :daumenhoch:
Title: Re: Raleigh's New Burner
Post by: meticulous on March 23, 2008, 11:37 AM
i think they should do a bit of rebranding, its just that name that spoils what is now a decent looking bike, when i here skoda i still think of sh.t cars when realy they are all excellant being part of the V.A.G group, they should do what toyota did with lexus, they could then charge a premium price for their product and they then wouldnt be 10,000,000 of them on the same street ;)

gotta disagree guys.
yes bmx is back in fashion at the moment
but its a totally different style to what we knew.
newschool bikes are completely different. burners i can
only see appealing to 30 somethings for purely nostalgic reasons.
and as such should have been left to a limited run.
i cant see many parents buying one for their kids and the kid being happy.
can you imagine turning up at a skatepark with one
you thought we got ribbed as a kid for having a burner, can you imagine what
it would be like now :D :D

Title: Re: Raleigh's New Burner
Post by: magna13 on March 23, 2008, 11:48 AM
I Agree To Dwain, But I Dont Think Theres Anything Wrong With Kids Having Them. And Usually Kids Never Go To Skateparks, And They Would Defo Buy These Over A Magna, Vibe Or Apollo Espiecially With The Quality Decals And Eye Opening Skyways, You Will Look The Kiddie
Title: Re: Raleigh's New Burner
Post by: moley on March 23, 2008, 11:51 AM
I think they should do a new school cheap Burner.

Unless they do already.  I just don't know?

They should be like the NS quad and ripper.   NS geometry and components but retro.

That could pee off the Burner Lads though!!

the parts on the tap07 were so crap, could raleigh not work with dia comp and kashimax and do a proper replica!! and are dia comp and kashimax still in buisness!! :)

Dia-Compe Are Still In Buisness Big Time. And I Think Kashimax Are Having A Comeback With One Of The Old Seats.

Burners were always a bit crappy apart from the top end ones.

You need a good quality bike for as cheap as you can get it.

It must be rideable and not some cheap ASDA bike.

It also has to be marketed right.

BITD the Burner adverts were pretty good.

Raleigh must have done something right BITD

its been mentioned several times but if they fitted top quality or one off repo parts
the price of the the bike would be double
and would you pay £500 for one?? ??
i love the concept of these bikes and dont mind they are cheap, come on the originals
were never known for the quality ;D
what gets me is the way they keep knocking out more models, i mean how lazy are Raleigh.
that "mag burner" is just the super tuff painted white ::) ::)

:) I`m still not swayed on Raleigh bikes. They do have a newer alloy framed race bike-Burner Race? Alans were doing them for £160.That seems to be the only proper decent BMX they have.Maybe they could have based the re-issues or whatever you call them around that?

Why Cant They Advertise Their AP Burners In rideBMXmag, Like And Old School Looking Advert And Then It May Pursuade Kids To Get Them. Raleigh The Oppurtunity Is There! Get Some Dosh And A Couple Of Bikes And Put An Advert In RideBMX!!!!

Impossible... the cost of all the tooling to be remade would not be recoverable from the sale of the bikes... It was looked into at the time of the TAP07 and the costs were just not practical.

The tooling alone for a Kashimax Aero came in at £4k..... little did Raleigh know that Kashimax would be re-releasing the Aero this year....  ;D ;D as for Dia-Compe re-tooling for the MX1000/900's... would the demand justify the cost??? its not just a case of knocking out a few hundred sets.... for this kind of manufacturing to be justifiable you are talking about 1000's of pieces being retooled and remanufactured.

I know the TAP07 has taken a battering in some quarters... but the F&F's are 'quality'!!! and throw into that a set of BRAND NEW Tuffs... and all of a sudden the £250 is not that bad... Yes it has Tektro brakes.... as do dozens of other NEW bikes... MirraCo's, Haro's... etc etc...

I agree the seat, bars & Crankset were below par... but anyone wanting to use the bike seriously would instantly swap those anyway...

People have moaned about the price tag.... Do you have any idea how much the bike would have had to retail at, had Raleigh pushed for 'every' component to be remanufactured... they would have sold half a dozen bikes!!!!!

beard i have no problems with these bikes at all.
i ordered the TAP as soon as heard about it and was so looking
forward to owning one.
i think £250 is a good price and appreciate them for what they are
but as soon as they started bringing out boxfresh,STB, and now the MAG
i think the original concept has been lost :(
is there plans for an ultra, extra, tuff ??
and whats hppening with the burnerworld edition?

The Burnerworld Edition is still in the pipeline and is awaiting some 'details' from the guys upstairs at Raleigh...

As for other editions.. extra.. ultra.. etc etc... I doubt it.. I was suprised when they brought out this latest Mag Burner.

What I would like to see is them concentrating on a 'decent' new school bike....

If they did a proper remake of that frame etc i would buy one, first bmx i ever saw and the one that got me going but my mum got me a Grifter, she is just like the parents who come into my shop they really do not have a clue what the kid wants which is why the burners are probably selling as to most parents they are a bmx which is what little johnny wants for his birthday etc but i must agree i think Raleigh have over milked this cow, i was quite excited when i got my TAP but its still in the box untouched and im not rally that bothered.

I bought a TAP07 and kept it in the box and duely sold it, wish i kept it now.. want to sell yours Dave?  :) I quite like the look of the Supertuff but the Mag burner is pushing it! I would have thought a chrome Aero Pro would have been a much better bike for them to market.
