Title: removing shimano DX endcaps
Post by: jimwise68 on March 23, 2008, 01:04 PM
Got some DXs with the original endcaps in. they seem to be stuck fas due to a bit of scuffing. What is the best way to removing them?

Do they screw out?

no. they fook up when you try. remove any swarf from the alloy, and use a glasses screwdriver to pry them out.

nigh on impossible though.

you could try soaking them in liquid wrench for a feww days first, that may persuade them. its usually the oxidisation of the alloy that creates the seal though, so maybe a drop into caustic (if you are restoring them) may take that little bit of erosion away, and give you chance to nibble them out.

endcaps seem to be hard to come by these days.

Sorry to hijack - Crazycraig, if someone can get me the artwork for the end caps I can make up a CAD file (dwg format?)

I could do with a pair of caps for my old DXs also, just let me know what you need.
