99% of old school bikes have US BB, I ordered US 180mm :daumenhoch:
-
Just ordered mine too, 180mm American for the Ruffell 'Goose. I've got a few months to put some cash aside for them but I'm sure it'll be well worth it.
-
can get some real ones for that
-
thats what i have been thinking , you can get some original ones ?
why would you want repopped ones
stuff is dropping in price big time and a set of gen2s are certainly doable for a little bit more cash

Almost! There have been a few gripes over on VintageBMX about the price which, as some have pointed out, is more than the 24" Graphite Skyways, but I can see that, for a limited run, there is likely to be more work required to make the Profile cranks than the 24" Graphites. I intend to use the Profiles on my 'Goose for racing, while still keeping it looking like a replica of Ruffell's bike. The thing that puts me off getting a set of '80's Gen2's is that even Profile themselves have said they weren't all that strong. I'd much rather put my faith in a set of new cranks, with modern manufacturing techniques and quality control, than in a set of 20+ year old cranks. That's the only reason I want a set - Oldschool looks with newschool strength (hopefully! :D)
-
yep thats a good reason for sure ;D
fair enough
Ill get my coat lol

nah, a pair of minty OG ones would set you back min £300 surely, even in the cash drought ???
-
I've only seen Zippy's ones sell cheap lately; all the others have been way up over £300 biguns. They sound good value but I think I'd like to see what they look like first :daumenhoch:.
-
they'll be ltd edition, and exactly the same as the OG's apart from a serial no. on the inside of the arm, I guess me and kenny will have one of the first from the production line, really lookin forward to getting mine, so they'll be on my 'secret' build for MK this year ! ;)

Blimey! When you add on the cost of a spindle, bottom bracket, bolts & postage, they work out more expensive than the Profiles! Bloody nice arms, but I think I'll wait until July.

I called Profile today and talked with owner Jim Alley. here's some more info about these cranks...
These cranks will be made using the exact materials used back in the early 80's. 4130 CrMo .65 thick sheet plate will be used, along with the original stamp that Profile used back in the day.
Original crank foil decals.
The original Grade A hardware used back in the day was supplied by Bowman. They are back to supply hardware for this re-release.
Cranks will have Copper Nickle SHOW CHROME finish!
-
were they stamped then ? or the early 90's ones ?

The gen 2 s just had the size etched on the back of the arms

Here's a pic of the cranks from the Profile website...

Looking good :smitten:
Apparently there's a t-shirt included in the package too, but they now expect the cranks to be ready late July/early August. Maybe too late for MK then :(
-
Is it just me , or do them welds look at bit slap dash :-\

Pedal end on the non drive arm looks secondhand/ground down ???
-
The bottom bracket looks new, but I wonder if this is a test build for the reissues, or if it's actually a genuine 80's set they've used just so they can post a picture up of what the real ones will look like. I don't particularly want some genuine 80's damage on my new cranks thank you very much! :tickedoff:
-
Hmmmmm
What will this do to the value of my original Gen 2s? >:(
Looking good though, would have a set if I had the cash.
-

I doubt it will affect them at all :)
-
Those cranks in that picture are of an old set that Profile has had in storage all of these years.
Jim Alley has said that the new production run will have a nicer, show chrome finish than the originals. I'm sure the welding will be top notch as well.
