I raced norwich, ipswich, brandon, lowestoft, pleasurewood hills (lowestoft), peterborough and once at woodham ferrers back in the day.
From 84 till about 89.
-
im in brandon what age group ???
-
I was 12 in 85. Found my old club membership for brandon (flint town flyers) whilst looking for piccies...
-
you are younger than me but you might have raced jason mills or he was a year older than you.
the tracks just about flattened but still has a bmx area .
-
Funny that! Yeah I raced Jason Mills. We used to do some elbow bashing. Cant remember any more names but, that one I know.
Chris.
-
jason now ownes hardcorehobbies bmx shop in bury st edmunds.
-
You kid me! I picked up some comp III's there a few months ago!?
-
Jason still races now in 30+, top bloke, if a little short. ;)
I raced in the same agegroup as you then, but I did NBMXA in EA (UKBMX I did region 9). I raced against Millsey in the 80s a bit, so I might have raced you at some point. :daumenhoch:
Paul 'Paddy' Baker raced for Brandon I think, same age as us, do you remember him? He still races now, more 4X than BMX these days.
-
Hehe, i cant comment too much on the height, i forgot to stand in line when they were dishing the tall genes out as well.
We may well have raced, I was ok, nothing special mind, traded places with Jason alot.
A couple of names I can remember, Jim pestell, Simon browning, Richard everett? I think he was an ipswich guy..
-
Hehe. Great photos. I think i was there that day.Sure i have some photos as well somewhere. Remember Ruffell and Jay Maloney with their white Holeshot Hoodies all dirty at the back.
Good that someone got Andys bike on film, putting to bed the old wives tale that he never ran Redline Flights, only Aerospeeds.
Whether or not its true i dont know but after the threads stripped on those Aerospeeds i never saw him use them again.
-
cool pics. xr3i's too. what more can you ask.....
-
i remember that XR3i when he lived in Woodham Ferrers!
-
Got to admit it, Ruffell was the man back then..

The pleasurewood hills pics are awesome, i completely forgot about that place :daumenhoch:
Me & my best mate rode that track a few times, they used to hire out the bmx's so you could have a go, i remember getting on one of their bikes & thinking omg this bike is so much better than my super burner :LolLolLolLol: Nice One for the flashback....Happy days!! :daumenhoch:
-
I work with a guy who was local to lowestoft, he told me they closed the track, and the hiring of bikes, when someone crashed pretty bad.
Insurance reasons I guess.
They sold off the bikes, he bought one, im sure they were ammaco?
-
I would've liked to have bought a few of them bikes :daumenhoch: The pleasurewood hills track was probably one of the first proper tracks i'd been on. So are you a Norwich boy fouronethree?
-
I was more a country boy back then, Reepham area about 15 miles outside Norwich..
Plenty of trail/dirt tracks, fields and woods to ride in.
-
Norwich old track was in Old costessey, at the Atlas agregates quarry, between old costessey and ringland.
It was on private ground so you could only use it on official race days.
If you didnt know it was there you would never find it.
The new track is Sloughbottom park, near asda on the ring road.
-
