this has been discussed before,........
......but I have really noticed a 'slow down' on people buying and selling old school stuff, especially on RAD and also ebay over the past couple of months.
Prices too are coming down on a lot of stuff, so is this 'it' then ??? or just a 'dip' in the market ?
Do you still have the same buzz ? or is anyone losing interest in this hobby? Are you still going to be building more bikes this year, or spending it elsewhere ? (On rising household bills, home improvements, holidays, other hobbies, recreational drugs etc...?)
Would be interested in peoples opinions?
seems to have gone a bit flat or late ! :(
-
Got out of building OS stuff about 6 years ago and sold it all, now trying to stop bulding anything but finding it difficult :LolLolLolLol:
the market will drop off eventually as there are only so many 30-40 somethings interested in this hobby
:) DINGO :)
-
im not bored ,just refining what i have and changing the odd part .refreshing rides
is to me like a new build so get a buzz from that.
the market will always up and down ,but as most of us have built what we always wanted ,the rest just isnt as good
so yes i would say alot have almost done building for a while .
but the odd one will no dought jump up and say get me you neeeed me and of you go again.
i have alot more time for mid school at the moment and it gives a new target and a new hunt factor.
-
i've just secured what i keep telling myself is my last build, ::)
i have been thinking about selling up, but always have 2nd thoughts - and anyway the proceeds will be wasted on other things anyway, like bills and CC Overdrafts etc ;D
just feel its gone a bit stale at the moment....., still looking forward to MK and logging on the RAD for the banter !!
Yes, also still refining and upgrading current builds Dan, and not going to go new school just yet Dingo ! ;) But maybe a retro build........ :coolsmiley:

I only have one NEW new school bike all my others are mid 90- early 00's but I like them because I can ride them without worrying too much :coolsmiley:
:) DINGO :)

I ride all mine and have a bike for my various types of biking, so to that end I'm done building. If I do change things its one in-one out.
-
i'm still trying to kick the addiction :-[ but cant .
spread the word to get more folk involved .............so i can sell mine :)
It looks like not many peeps have bought site supporter tag either :-\
-
still buying and building but have slowed down massively, just looking for the odd bargain now. i seen of late a few bargains, rippers under £200, profiles for £100, GT pro f&f £60. could do with iit all going up again tho cos i wanna shift most of it after MK to take my daughter back to disney next year.
-
ive built 2 bikes i wanted just a skyway ta needed to complete my collection but with them going for silly prices that one wont be happening
as ive just bought a new house with a big mortgage and my moneys gotta go into doing that up for now
the mrs will be happy if she reads this :LolLolLolLol:
im still gonna upgrade bits on my bikes and get them just how i want them though :4_17_5:

:LolLolLolLol: addiction sums it up, sold loads of bits to go snowboarding and more to come for house deposit but still got new builds on the go and a few f/f that had years that will get done in slow time..... even bought a NS wrong type though :-[ :LolLolLolLol:
-
Come the summer it will pick up again. People are not selling stuff..... thats why it is slow.
Also things like MX1000's that were going through the roof before xmas have now come down because of people like Jai (SE BMXER) who managed to sell the pairs he was sourcing relatively cheap to help out the collectors. HE WASNT GREEDY!
As soon as they are off the market and all bought up then the price will rise. Supply and demand!
Same as TA's. A few people sold them not so long back and they were getting crazy money. Now there are loads on the bay so they dont achieve as much. It is a buyers market but that always changes in every industry.
WANTED PARTS ARE STILL FETCHING HIGH PRICES!
People are definitely keeping their stock though i find.
-
Yeah me too just a few bits and pieces to finish and a few alterations and upgrades here and their and that's it for me no more bikes. Then all the spare bits will be sold.
bodamus :)

I'm new to it again and i'm loving it, maybe in a couple of years time i'll be like you guys.
I'm in the middle of my first rebuild, a Free Agent Limo and i also bought a 2002 Huffy which i came off of hard at Andover race track. Sadly this crash broke a bone and also dislocated it from my sternum for the rest of my life.
My Free Agent is coming along slowly but the best part is sourcing the bits i need and if prices are dropping then i'm well happy.
When i bought it....

Now.....(http://www.radbmx.co.uk/archive/albums/p191/carpcrazyox/freeagant1.jpg)
I'm waiting on some templates for the pads and i'm scowering here and E-bay for blue bits to finish it.
Just loving it again its an addiction.

Thought i d lost interest , put me changa on the bay , looked at it and thought "thats mine " so pulled it and now loving it even more. You probably will get lows and highs , but when you look at the bikes u own , the individuallity and the knowledge that therse 20years+, and you ve put it together + makes me , anyway , have a big grin on me face , even if the next bloke to yours is better, in your eyes its :4_17_5:
-
Still got heaps of interest but have been more careful about what I buy; some items I want just don't seem to be coming up and when they do they are mega bucks (e.g. Vector VC-8's). I've also got some parts undergoing restoration rather than replacement and that's taking a bit of time and reducing my need to buy more parts. Some prices are coming down but not all. I've picked up a couple of bargains recently but nothing significant other than I bagged a pair of NOS Blue Tech 3's and a cheapy power disk off that ebay seller in Rochdale.
I think I really want to get out and ride a bit more!!!!

i think that probably sums it all up for me as well :daumenhoch:
i went off the whole OS thing....then my mate gave me his old Goose and i'm loving it all over again :daumenhoch:
love the NS side as well now too
-
Every day i think what the fook am i doing :wtf: :LolLolLolLol: but i just can't seem to shake this hobby at the mo. Ive got a few bits in my head that i wanna get then thats me i think. Won't be buying any more but will still hang out on here for the crack and to meet new and great people :4_17_5:
jimmyp :)
-
Have to say I thought I was loosing interest over the winter, but now the race season has started again and been out to skateparks I've got the BUZZ again. :daumenhoch:
But I agree with the comments made so far, most people have been in the game a few years now and have built nearly all there dream bikes, prices for stuff does seem to be coming down with a few exceptions obviously.
Personally I've got 1 resto to do this year and after that I'm not building anymore and will just be enjoying riding :daumenhoch:
Well unless a Change Long comes up then I may have to change my mind :LolLolLolLol:
But I'm sure there will still be a trickle of new faces into the hobby that haven't found it yet so parts will keep moving around just at a slower pace IMO.
-
im sick to death of it all tbh, ebay, rad, everything....it stinks
Dave
-
I still love OS but sadly no room or cash,so i got the love back with my Dk recently :smitten: been out on it a few times now, and love it, some times you have to make a descision mine was the right one, as i can get real use out of it, instead of sitting in the cuboard, im getting it back, all ready for the summer :4_17_5:

i thought i was losing interest,...... ::)
...just bought another old school ride this week ;) :coolsmiley: >:D
-
I only got into it just before xmas with an Aero Reflex build. That was supposed to be it, satisfy my desire for an OS bmx. I now have a T/A, 2 Streetbeats and a Robinson Pro. I have to stop.

its like an addiction , think you dont want anymore , then bang , u buy another. The great radman himself told me "its better than wasting it on drugs and booze"(which i totally agree with) But, , i think there should be counselling for o/s bmx :LolLolLolLol:. Im interested to see what the olympics will do for it, i reckon it will explode , bigtime, nice if they done some history about it on the beeb :LolLolLolLol: They could hire Radman and do a tour of his loft
-
I've not lost that loving feeling for bmx, but I am severly limiting the amount of time I spend dvoted to it, not to mention money.
-
Take your time and you won't loose interest, am with Mr V on this one......it should take you a year to build a bike properly anything less and you either have too much stuff or you have compromised on a part :LolLolLolLol:
oh and you should be on your second or third colour combo so you know its right and your happy with it :4_17_5:

EXACTLY!!!!!
The most enjoyable build i have had to do is my Leary as it has been such a pain to source the parts and get it totally 100% original as it was SO SO wrong!
Take your time and try a harder build. ;)

In that case my next build will be a Holeshot RF-1. :LolLolLolLol:
That should take a while. :daumenhoch:

It is an addiction like drugs and booze.
Problem is I love drugs and booze and BMX so I'm screwed. I think I'm going to rehab AGAIN :crazy2:
bodamus.

see you there probably clutching my snowboard and skateboard as well :LolLolLolLol:

I'm off work with the kids at the mo, they are taking more and more time as they get bigger. Footy, saturday morning, swimming then rugby on sunday morning, means I don't get back home till the afternoons! Once I have caught up on moto gp then no real time left for building :tickedoff:
Things are moving slowly for me at the moment, still waiting on sorting out the plumber who invoiced me a stupid amount of money back in December and still not resolved so I'm not spending too much moola, except Dan's Goose pads ;)
I have just got one of these that I am researching at present. Same era as the BMX's I have and it was THE RACER I wanted at the time.....
So some expensive campag stuff needed and also some painting for the Don too!
-
I think the need is a bit more about having a practical outlet for me. I learnt a trade when i left school and then i went into sales management and i really missed being able to create something with my hands. Bmx's are about my limit though, i could never collect e type jags or anything like that but i can do a nice job on a BMX and it takes me back to some great memories. It should be recognised for its positives aswell, yes its addictive and its always bloody hard to resist what you want but i get a sense of acheivment from collecting

I have one build that has taken well over a year to source the parts, and I'm still not there, I've just found a pair of Torker Pro T Bars, after nearly 2 years looking, a great price too, less than £50 shipped from the US ! 8)
