Stu is still very much around, running 70s and Federal. I talk to him now and again, he's still a top man.
I cant tell you anything about if there will be any more backyard jams tho, there has been one since Ian Morris left, right?
-
Backyard still do the backyard jam from time to time, but its now bick buck sponsored arena indoor events, stll very enjoyable but not the real feeling of the old days.. than again, with the Old Fools Roadtip taking off as it is, who am I to talk, in a few years I'll probably be hiring venues and looking for sponsors/prizes etc!!

"Every Backyard Jam outside of Hastings has sucked ass"
:4_17_5:
i was too young to go to the originals but as soon as i heard it was coming back and going to be in hastings again , i simply had to attend
it was 2003 wasnt it :-\
mighty fine weekend
to me backyard isnt backyard if it isnt near hastings :yahoo_silent:
everything else , is just something else
-
Amen.
-
Wasnt it something to do with lack of funding and sponcership why they dont have Backyard now?
-
when is the dvd box set coming out?
-
The last proper weekend one was too mental, bottle fights, all sorts of things kicking off. Too much hassle doing anything like that again I'd imagine.
-
those later jams cost a fortune to host. they probably overall broke even in the long run, but i think etnies pulled their backing after the last one (was that sheffield)
kids just don't seem to give a toss about contests, so there's other ways to spend marketing cash.. like shitty webvideos full of kack new era cap slow riding....
another factor is the english mentality of kids not being able to hold scrumpy and behave, and the fact the general public wouldn't pay to come watch, they just aren't interested..
compare it to how chilled and well behaved the masters crowds are, (with booze on tap 24-7) AND how many are just punters come to enjoy it..
there's a lot we can learn from ze germans!
-
like chris said. too many can't handle their beer. i went to a few of the hastings jams and they ruled. its a shame all that trouble kicked off at the 97 or 98 hastings outdoor one. apparently 86 people were taken to hospital that weekend,( some kids and parents who had been injured by flying bottles etc.) plus there was the alleged rape. drunk lads trying to get their end away with some girl who had passed out thru drink. just so much hassle and i guess insurance went thru the roof.
that was what i heard. shame really as the original backyards rocked.
-
Nothing could ever be like the old backyard jams. They were so good because they didnt have big media coverage they were just full of like minded people there to ride and see some amazing riding. Health and saftey would close it down before it even started these days :( Alot of stuff these days is run to make big money and bring in people who arent into the sport to say" look arent they clever" a bit more like a circus.
The old days are gone and i guess i can count myself as one of the lucky ones who was there :daumenhoch:

Way too many backyard Jam stories.
-Driving a car load of newcastle BMXers back from the club and having them totally fighting eachother in the back (and they were mates!) :knuppel2:
-Waking up in a Transit van to feel it rocking cos my mate was on the front seat with a girl who had walked past 3hours earlier. I looked thro the head rest and made eye contact with him, and totally put him off the climax he was about to have >:D (I guess he wont make a porn actor)
-All the stuff that went on in Stus flat "that night" :-X
Good times :daumenhoch:

Did any Radsters get involved with tag teaming that under age chick in a tent in 96?
-
wasn't that 97? thats why they stopped it happening in the feild after that!
i was partly involved in the one at coventry a few years ago as its my home town, so helped set the ramps up and stuff.
because the weather was so good that weekend, seventies lost £10000 on that one event from what i heard

Im happy and proud to say I made nealry every backyard jam, i think the only one i didnt get to was the first one - I used to go on mass with the dvon and cornwall lot - and remember a very very young and drun Tommy Bowers from Saltash nailing his nadsack to some wood. He also jumped the chasm that day too. I used to love those events, mikie richardson, Tim Ruck, Kev Perry, and tons of us form the south west used to pitch up our tents then drin cider the entire time. Ieven remember getting hoffman to sign my cider bottle as it was all I had in my possession.
We , however, could handle our devon-fall-over-apple-liquid and never started any sh1t, just had a damn good time without fooking theplace up.
I will say however, that devon legen Andy Quest claim sto have started the plastic bottle chucking next to the vert ramp as DMC was about to drop in... I for one believe him. Also Id never try and stop him as he is the size of two men welded togther with pure muscle!
Happy days.

ive been to every jam since 93 and im proud to say ive never had a drink at any jam!
-
93 was my first time there and went to everyone upto the last in 97 and got drunk at everyone too :daumenhoch: have some good memories from the backyard jams from riding the dirt jumps at midnight using cars to light the jump up to collecting pallets to use as firewood when camping in the field opposite mc donalds when some townie types started on us then next thing i know theres about 50 bmxers behind us and the townies ran off ;D ;D ;D
-
I missed the first year with Fuzzy and McCoy.
I think the first one I went to was in 93. This is photo taken the morning after everyone slept at Dulys house. Quite a lineup

When did the Backyard Jams first start?
I'm sure I went to one of them. But it was just as I was about to stop riding (or I might have actually stopped by then).
All I really remember about it was that they seemed to only have one CD that was on repeat. It was the Nirvana Nevermind CD. I think that was a Backyard Jam. Does that sound familiar to anyone else?
-
Scary
-
I think I have that nirvana CD somewhere, now all we need is a ramp and an afro :LolLolLolLol:
-
the nirvana cd was 92, i have the video somewhere :daumenhoch:

get it back on ,im up for that... before something else falls of me ..
whos got stu's email i had it when i got some forks .we can give them a nudge
you never know.

Sorry to hoot my own.... but I'm pretty proud of a couple of Backyard Jam memories. 95, I landed on my face doing a 540 on vert, a clip of that crash made it onto the BMX MEN video from Allied. Then 96 I won the C-Group vert comp... Still crashed a 540 then though... haha.

questy was a man mountain. though he seemed an ok bloke on the occasions i met him. did some filming with questy, tommy, colin and martyn tambling around 98/99 for my 'tidy' video- plus colin and martyn sent me some footage from back home at saltash for it. a friend of yours (max patten- lives in cardiff now)) introduced me to a rider who was getting good at a young age- martyn tambling. i remember him as a young 15 year when he bought 'bcr on the vcr' video off me at sk8 and ride back in 97. he was good then, good to see he kept it up and is now one of the top brit riders.
