Title: Kuwahara experts required
Post by: youngy on April 10, 2008, 12:26 AM
Hi guys, Could any Kuwahara experts help me out, is this a KZ1 or not??
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=280211008661
Bought on impulse without checking, guy was genuine but after looking on the kuwahara site I'm beginning to doubt its authenticity. Rear drop outs not like those on the Kz1 but like the KE, but then has double gusset???
Don't really know much about Kuwwi's but always liked them as a kid!! Help needed!! :( :daumenhoch:
HEEELP!!! :idiot2:
Thanks
Graham

not a KZ1 im afraid mate. its probably an Akisu frame which you've paid a bit much for.

Right, I've checked on the Jamies Kuwahara site and the drop outs vary on the KZ1, some have the holes but on the red one in BMX Action magazine has the one like mine, also the serial no. on mine begins with T( can't rememeber rest!!) which makes it Tange made so I think it is a KZ1 and the seller is saying this is what he bought it as.
Thanks for help and all replies appreciated

kuwie did make the early kz1 `s  with the even earlier style  rear ke-1 dropouts  , call it the change over if u like ,,  tange made the early kuwies and were stamped with "T" at the start of the serial number .. nice kz1 u have there  :daumenhoch:

I stand corrected. it was the rear dropouts that made me think not a KZ1 in first place.  :-[

youngy post some better pics when you get it mate.

Oh man gutted how did I miss that one I've been after one of the early ones for ages. Like Radman says they are the first KZ-1 Frames after the KE-1's so probably very very early 1980.

You know where to come if you ever fancy selling it mate.

Guys thanks for all the replies as usual your help is invaluable :daumenhoch: Panic over!!! Didn't think the seller would rip me off as far too genuine when I met up with him and fair play rang me straight away when i contacted to reassure me, there are some good people out there still :) Might actually get to build something rather than just buying bits although as has been said thats the best bit!!

PKRadman have pm'd re padsets just wondering if you could help. Thanks
Bodamus have pm'd

Lucky Ian, that is one of the sweetest frames I have seen in a long time.

Looks like a quality re-chrome too.
