Title: Chainring Problem.
Post by: ligbee on April 14, 2008, 08:22 PM
Bought a couple of chainrings (Sugino/SR style) to which I was going to fit a standard Spider. When I tried to bolt the spider onto either of them, it seems that the spider is too small, is there two sizes of spider or is it a power disk fitting only.

Don't remember this problem back in the day.

are you putting all 5 of the bolts in loose before you tighten any up there are a lot more knowledgable people on here that can help but this is all i can think of for now

You cannot as the pcd of the spider is too small, the radius of the holes could do with being about another 10 mm.

i could be wrong but it sounds like you've got a Sugino spider and Takagi chainring?  the Sugino spiders are smaller, thus there rings are bigger and the oposite for Takagi.

hope that makes sense?

That sounds about right.

I'll have to find out which one is which as both chainrings and spiders are copies.

Cheers

Well it sounds as if you got a 130mm bolt circle diameter chainring, something like a takagi, shimano or tioga (same thing) and a Sugino pattern spider which has a bcd of 110mm. You'll need either a Sugino, Suntour or Tuf Neck chainring to fit or get a powderdisc with the dual holes

Here's a 130mm

And these are 110mm

Hope that helps :daumenhoch:
