Title: New School Flight help
Post by: Haro82 on April 15, 2008, 09:17 PM
Just trying to fit a set of new school flights. What a pain in the arse the bootom bracket is  >:(

Can anyone who has fitted one give me any tips?

The cups with the bearings in do not go all the way in because of the length of the shim that goes inside. Am I supposed to cut that down?

When I leave one of the cups slighty sticking out (i.e not flush) it seems like the spindle is not horizontal so my chainring spins like its buckled  :(

What do I do???????????????????????????  Help!!!!!!!   :tickedoff: :tickedoff:

Yes you do need to cut the shim down to make them fit flush, however I`m not sure if that will cure the wonky chainwheel, have you got the top hat washer that fits inside the hole in the chainwheel ?

I've never used the shim ? Always left it out ! Bang the BB in flush and your away fella - or like Bill says cut it down !

There should be a little washer that comes with the chainring - that needs to be pushed into the chainring before fitting  :daumenhoch:

Cheers Chaps,

I was thinking about not using the shim but I I read somewhere that it was to stop pinching the bearings and only being used to the old school BB I thought it must be needed , but it seems to me it's more trouble than it is worth.

I think I'm gonna take it out, if I can get one of the cups out!  :(

I've got the top hat washer on 'behind' the spider, is that right ?  I've then got to suss out where where to put all the others !!

Cheers
Andy.
