Title: no offense but....
Post by: smokey on December 27, 2005, 01:03 AM
Just out of curiousity, fair enough old skool riders are all pretty much nice guys, alot of you can most definately ride a bike. but i am curious as to why as someone who may be returning to bmx or something, why o n earth choose an oldskool bike to go out on, i realise the sentimental value of an oldskool bike may hold for some, but bmx engineering, technology and refinement has advanced so much since the 80's, and bikes now are lighter, stronger and all round much more pleasant to ride. oh and actually cheaper than NOS parts in some cases. not to be a muggy c**t or anything but I just can't understand why drive a model T ford when you can drive that sexy bugatti off of Top gear last week.

Perhaps it's the age old adage "They don't make em like they used to". Todays bikes are way more refined than the classics of the 80's but alot of the BMX companies who could once boast that their bikes were "Made in USA" are now being made in China and Taiwan. Does Mongoose actually make any of it's current BMX line up in the USA? Please correct me if I'm wrong (And I really hope I am) but Mongoose along with alot of other manufacturers are now having their bikes made in the above mentioned countries to cut down on labor costs where as back in the 80's they were made in the good ol' US of A.

heres the way i see it.....most of us old turds who get back in to bmx, havent really got a clue about what is going on technology wise in the bmx world, and build the bikes we always wanted as kids.
that said most of us persevered with an old school bike to ride on....with not a lot of sucsess, then most of us ....i say most(purley on the basis that phil wont give up the ghost on the rickman), have bought a new school bike ....so as to hang up the os bikes to look at, and to ride the new.

and smokey ......no offence taken buddy.

I like what i like.

People buy and drive classic cars, I would sooner have an 85 Porsche Turbo than a new thing.

Old school bike to compete in the old school class so you at least THINK you are in with a chance of not coming last.....either that or to join in the "taking a breather" break on the 2nd berm
