Just to ensure that things didn't go too S&M, now that Alex is the new mid-school king...I thought it was time for this again...
Now let me here you chant; "Hoffman is our leader. Hoffman is god." You'll find it helps if you kneel and the same time as chanting.
Did I ever mention I had this before? :coolsmiley:

Lovely bike :)
Just finished Matt's autobiography, what he's put himself through in the name of BMX is astounding :idiot2:  :crazy2:
Do I have to face a specific direction when I'm kneeling dude? :D

You're not wrong - it's an awesome read that certainly inspired me to build Condor.
It's a first batch SE-made factory spec complete - all NOS apart from the frame n forks.

Dave, I thought of your Condor when I got my Mad Dog frame a few weeks ago. It has been sent to S&M and they have just sent it on to me. Because of you and these photos, I asked Moeller to sign the Mad Dog frame. He said he opened the box but it was so well packaged up that he didnt bother getting it out. Ah well. props to the Ebay seller for packing it so well.
And your condor does still look good, but did it look better when I used to ride with it and its old owner all the time :-\
-
I think Chris has summed things up nicely.
Dave's story and pics are cool but am I alone in the belief that Hoffman sold us out?
I've met or spoken to Mat a few times and he's a lovely bloke, but things were pretty fantastic until the X-Gaymes.

s&m tried real hard! :LolLolLolLol:

I've never been much of a fan of the x games, but you can't knock old Mats dedication. I wouldn't be riding if it weren't for him, which means I would have missed out on so so much over the last 14 years or so.
As for people selling us out, I would be looking much much closer to home for that one.
-
Of course bikes look better when they are ridden. All very good, but some of us can't ride any more and the best I can do is have shiny bikes on the carpet to stay in the sport. Restoration is all I can do now, so if that ain't enough then sorry.
I don't think Hoffman sold bmx out at all. He thought he was doing the right thing by preaching the message as wide as he could and was the influence of thousands of riders...as was Standard, as was S&M, as was...it's all good, it's all BMX. Hoffman just did a better job of merchandising his part of the sport.
The melting pot of all the brands and characters behind them as made it was it is today, and it's all good.
-
I thought you had sold out on the Hoffman front Dave? I've plans to build my Flash next week now I've plentry of time on my hands ;).
-
With regards to the Xgaymes, Matt said in his book that it was going to happen with or without him so he tried his level best to keep on top of the 'marketing machine' & try to steer it in the right direction. Imho I don't think he had a great deal of choice...
I think your resto is the tits & more than prooves your continued love of BMX (if proof were needed?) - riding or not :daumenhoch:

Nah, never sold out. I made a promised to this site that I would sell my entire Hoffman collection if I ever got a first batch Condor and that's what I did. Luckily, apart from the Flash, they all went to homes that really wanted them and will be taken great care of!
The only person I would ever let my first gen go to is Hoffman himself as he doesn't have any of his original bikes. It would be an honor.

Well...basically, I briefly spoke to him during breakfast at the hotel...after breakfast we (me, pete, paul meacher and vicky) were sitting out in the reception area and Mat came out of the restaurant and sat down with us. Had a little chat with all of us, and then said that we had something in my room that I'd like to show him. So, 4 of us, 1 of him, he thought it was Pimms-o-clock and just went with it.
In the lift he started to sweat a little...and when we got to my room he wandered in, saw the bikes and was absolutely speechless.
The best BMX day of my life. Top man.
-
you told me chloroform
-
Rohypnol, I heard.......... ;D
-
so you took 3 bikes to germany on spec?
check out the fooking dedication :daumenhoch:
i'm impressed dude, seriously.
-
Yep, we drove over, so it wasn't a problem taking the bikes.
We knew Mat was staying in the same hotel as us (as I've stalked him for the whole year), so we kinda had to make it happen.
But, big respect to Mat, he did it and spent a lot of time with us both on that day and the following morning also - little Billy BMX couldn't believe it when Mat came over to sit with us on Sunday morning.
