first the world goes crazy for odysseys plastic pedals.
i just find out eastern are working on a plastic bb that saves 18 ozs, who gives a shit about 18 ozs
http://www.easternbikes.com/
-
bmx seems to be following the mtb path of years gone.
its hillarious.
ti axels snap.............................bb's snap....................................
-
18oz is quite a saving if light weight is what you're looking for. Certainly more than is saved by milling out a bit more material from a stem or whatever.
-
why not just use a nylon bush type bb?
OR have a p1ss before riding? I am pretty sure one of my dumps weighs more than 18oz (closer to the weight of Laz, truth be told :LolLolLolLol: )
:) DINGO :)
-
i'm cool with ti stuff but plastic ffs!
i'm fully aware plastics come a long way in recent years but fookin hell! its still plastic
-
too slippy for my flid like feet ;)
plastic bb's too
-
fook it!
when this hits production i'm gonna get one. just to see if i am too stuck in my ways and should move with the times
-
I had a nylon swing arm protector on my Suzuki 1100 and it was tough enough not to wear thru with a chain spinning fast enough to spin the wheels at 165mph so I am sure they can make the stuff strong enough but will friction be a problem?
:) DINGO :)
-
i like a bit of friction on my cranks, stops them from spinning when i'm doing a superman seatgrab indian air
-
i was thinking the same mark, they must use some kind of lubricant?
i'm struggling to get my head around how it'll cope with the loads and forces involved,
and will the cranks spin freely? man i hate sticky feeling cranks!
-
In my work i often see high tensile steel pins that are running in nylon bushes, the pins are worn to fook but not a mark on the nylon bushes, you just wouldn't believe that the metal pin would wear before the plastic bush.

Plastic? Nah, I prefer wood (http://i.i.com.com/cnwk.1d/i/ne/p/2007/wooden_bike01_550x413.jpg) though not in a gay way.

Did they reconstitute that from Orac on Blakes 7?
-
Plastic this and plastic that.....Whats the go with the sudden urge to make BMX parts out of plastic? When I was a kid I used to throw away plastic pedals for the very reason they were JUNK. Now it seems plastic pedals appear to be cool. Well not with me they aint!!!!
Hell, I might even some stickers made up for my bikes that reads "Classic Not Plastic"
-
I quite like those platic BB sets, a few companies are lookin at them now. Nice and simple, easy to fit. They are more of a "self lube bearing" than just a coller of plastic. Im sure they can take the weight and its not like BMX cranks ever spin that much.
Plastic rims would be much better now, than they were in the 80s. At least no one would be trying to get a brake to work on them :idiot2:
-
Have you see the 'HITMAN' Sir Hans frame coming out? Friggin thing looks like swiss cheese ???
-
vw beetles do a plastic self lubing inserts instead of roller bearing for the front beam
and similar ones for the rear swing arms
so if they can carry a car should be ok for a bottom bracket
