Title: Fave MID-SCHOOL Bikes
Post by: Swivel on April 29, 2008, 11:37 AM
I had a brief session in the 90's where I went back to riding and bought a beautiful specially made Dyno GT, then sold it about a year later as I was moving jobs, really regret it now.

What's your favourite mid-school bikes and can you wack up some piccy's so I can get excited  :smitten: ;)

my personal all time favourite build/bike/photo :-\

i just love this fooker,

possibly THE most important bike in bmx history too :daumenhoch:

the first bmx frame to use the clamp-on A-headset system, leaving the shite, antiquated victorian "quill" system behind was a massive positive step for bmx, we havent looked back since :daumenhoch:

that could be any frame around today right there, and its over 10 years old

standard bykes bicyclemotocross

I was Hoffman through and through, but if one firm defines the era then it has to be Standard.  Everyone looked forward to their video releases, everyone studied their products and developments religously.  The team (army) was amazing.

It was all about Shortys and Lengthys when I first came to hear of em, but I'd say the STA was the better looking bike.

I'm sure Harris will be along in a mo to bang a photo of his up   :daumenhoch:

My personal favourite would have been the Hoffman I rode all through the 90s, final batch ramp room Condor  :smitten:

1995/6 S&M Holmes gets my vote.  I was riding a Skyway TA before that.

I had a Standard Bicycle Motocross like Joe's after the Holmes.  Do you not consider the Standard BMX as early new school though Joe, rather than "mid-school" (a term I've never really been comfortable with).

i know what you mean about the "mid" term, its never sat well with me tbh, i'd rather it was all just "bmx",
it could well be though that the standard bmx was the very first "new-school" frame,
my thinking was that it was from the pure mid standards era, the lengthy's and shorty's, sta ,etc,

heres an over posted holmes pic for the fans of big john :daumenhoch:

I guess this is a jump/trails bike in freestyle/street clothes. Photo taken in 1991, but Ive still got most of the parts.
I will get round to rebuilding it one day.

I'm quite partial to the Holmes as well, but my preference is still for the Homeless Mack - and before you say it, it isn't a Dirt Bike in disguise  ::)

The early Homeless were nice.
But does a Decal set and the addition of a coaster anchor even count as a disguise ?  >:D  :2funny:

I've had a bunch of Standards throughout the last 15 years or so but the bike that epitomises mid school for me is the STA.

first of all i got to back up laz! the first i ever saw of hitchcox was at koc 97 i think. on a brown taj! with long hair trying triple barspins in the invitational jumpbox comp on the sunday. then he got picked up by custom riders to ride a standard for them to promote there stuff then in december of 99 at the tenth anniversary jam in davenport he became full factory standard after meeting rick! so he's been riding a standard since late 97 if my memory is correct!

a couple of frames really stood out for me in the nineties that had that 'wow' factor when one turned up at a park because they were so rare at first.
firstly the standard trail boss! which has basically become the trls *** range and the top end fit frames! (history) robbie morales had his name behind the trailboss frame as a signature frame as that was one of his nicknames, then he left and it evolved into the T1 progression frame until he left T1 and set up fit bikes and.......thats my take on it anyway!

the other frame was the 'king liberty' because they were so fookin rare! regret selling mine to this day. and i have no pictures of it

Having missed out on the 90's scene (not sure, was either passed out drunk in a ditch or sliding down the side of a mountain on a plank) I'm still not too up on mid-skool stuff but I did find myself drooling over the STA at the Old Fools weekend (it's ok, I wiped up the mess afterwards).
