just wondering what other peoples opinions are on these? worth a buy or stick to the original old school TA? :-\
http://www.coloredtuffs.com/shop/index.php?act=viewProd&productId=276
-
surely if these are made up from old tubing for a production run in 86' these are as good as the originals?
well worth a punt imo.
-
go for it!!! :4_17_5:
-
Got my e-mail confirming I'm getting one and deposit paid, should be getting it in the next 4-6 weeks, Can't wait.
-
I got my email today - but turned it down cos I am holding out for the 24" retro skyway - how cool will that be????
Hopefully a UK old schooler will be offered my place.
:D
-
I'd rather have an early one , plenty about ;)
-
am i right in thinking skyway as a company is in the same hands as it was in the 80's?
has it been bought out or traded?
-
They look absolutely sperb and the 30 extra sets of forks will come in handy for certain. I hope this doesnt bring the value of the original TA's in to question, its a shame what happened to the streetbeats and streestylers, cant even get a hundred quid now for a nos streetbeat these days

That is correct. The owners of Skyway are still the same guys that were there since day 1.
Heck... even some of the guys that run the molding machines were there running the colored Tuffs back in the late 70's!

And that one had it's serial number filed off, and the seat post tube was cut. It was an old chrome frame that was painted white. In other words... used and abused.
And lets not forget about the new T/A that sold for £578 a few months ago!

on the basis of that this is probably the only "repro" i'd consider buying :)
plans for a modern geometry version that i could actually ride?
-

-
Seems a good buy to me as there using original frames and not new skool type knock offs :)

EMAIL SENT OFF AWAITING INFO cantwait 8)

I got the email and put the deposit down...yeeeehaaaa. Can't wait. But I do have a question.
Kuwahero posted a great TA frame and fork review from bitd on the thread below.
http://www.radbmx.co.uk/forum/index.php'topic=62509.0
The review states that the forks were heat treated after welding to make them stronger. Does anyone know if the 25th Anni TAs (or AniTA as mine will be called ) will go through a similar process?
Cheers

Anyone know if any of these are still available? I've tried emailing them but no reply!!
Anyone been offered one but don't want to go through with it, if so can I have your place? :daumenhoch:
Scotty >:D

I turned my one down - but they made it quite clear that I can't let someone else take my place due to the amount of people on the waiting list.
Would loved to help out fellow radders - but can't. :(
-
Okay. Not bitchin' here but... Are you aware the forks have solid dropouts but the rear dropouts have the No. 1/lightning bolt cutout. I think it's a great idea to utilise those leftover T/A tubesets but the dropout issue bothers me. Why couldn't they have had matching solid drops or matching drops with the cutout. Someone on another forum has mentioned that the brake bridge appears to be a curved one instead of the straight one you would expect on an '86 serialled T/A. I'm not saying this project is something Dr. Frankenstein might have knocked up in his lab but a bit of consistency would have been nice.
That said, at least they can't be passed off as original 80's produced f+f's as these variations would be spotted by an OS Skyway fan :-\
-
i think this is excellent that the bike is made from an '86 production line but as i asked with Kuwahara KZ-1 Rep will it be OS Race legal? i mean it came from 1986 but was never welded up...
-
In the mid 80's, when freestyle started taking off, many people were using their race frames for freestyle riding.
with that thought, these T/A's that were shelved until now, had "stronger" dropouts made for them. It's still the same T/A dropout, but without the cutout.
Skyway co-owner Jon Raudman told me that by eliminating the arrow cutout in the dropout, it strengthed the dropout a bit.
Hmmmm. Not sure if it made the dropout stronger, but that's what they did anyway...
-
I think it looks pretty decent!!! :)

-
I think the lack of drop-out cut-out in the forks is a damn good thing. The frames will be stamped I believe, but what was to stop these newer forks getting onto the market as originals unless there was a definite way of identifying them?
-

the repro'd burner pro's make an appearance in the oldschool races so i personally think they should be ok, but im pretty easy going, and they prob more oldschool than my race ride
-
jazzchimps original TA has the solid type dropouts, so theyve been around for quite a while now.
-
Yeah, I know the solid dropouts have been around for a while but the 25th anniversary T/A has solid fork dropouts but the rear ones have the cutout. My point was why couldn't we have either one or the other. :-\ The extra sets of forks that are being released are also solid dropout type. It would really bug me - having mismatched dropouts ???.
I was on the list for one but when I heard the chrome ones had been knocked on the head, I started to lose interest. Then, I emailed coloured Tuffs for a quote on UK shipping and the issue of duty, with no response, so it looks like someone else will replace me on the list.
Don't get me wrong - I still think they're cool and I wish everyone who buys one the best of luck with them :)
-
Ed will get back to you eventually but he'll take a while... he needs a good PA!
-
I've been waiting for a month or so for a reply to my emails and PM's so I wouldn't hold your breath!! ;)
-
are there any frame sets left for me to put my name down?
-
got my email today and paid me deposit, mine is for a show case not to be built and abused. cant wait :daumenhoch:

Here's a pic of the first one that we made. It's not stickered up yet... so I'm just showing off the brake bridge for right now....!
It looks like a good amount of these will be headed to the UK. I've emailed more people that are on the list, and will continue to go down the list until all 150 sets are accounted for.
Shipping to the UK is about $60 US dollars I believe. The postal rates JUST went up here in the USA, and the post office has just put restrictions on box sizes now too, so I need to look up the new rate info!
-
I received the elusive email today, I will get the deposit paid tomorrow >:D
-
Any news on the first fifty being built. The coloredtuffs site says they are being built in July. Any idea of the scheduled for the rest?
Cheers
P.

Waiting for my elusive email for months now
(come on ED)
Feel like one of those little green aliens in toy story...... :LolLolLolLol:
-
So how much deposit are you putting down? and how long is left to wait? and ::) are they only available in white?
-
The process was:
1) Add name to waiting list
2) Received the elusive email
3) If you want to go ahead follow the link and pay deposit (£220 if I remember correctly)
The colored tufss site now says they're sold out. With the first 50 built in July.
That's the latest....
-
We've ONLY sold the first 50 frameset. There's still 100 more that are up for grabs very soon!
The first 50 are just about ready, and I've begun contacting the first 50 buyers a few hours ago.
The forks are welded. The frames have the front triangles welded, and the rear triangles are being welded right now. Then, it's off to the powder coaters. Then I get to sticker them and box them up after a 11 hour round trip picking them up!
Out of the first 50 sets, 27 are staying in North America, and the remaining 23 are going overseas with the majority of those going to the UK, then Australia. France is getting 2, and Germany are getting 2 as well.
I'll begin emailing more people on the "waiting list" in a few weeks for sets #51 through 100.
-
cool - all is not lost then....
-
When did people start putting there names down on the waiting list? just i've had my name down for a year now and no email but i think i did see the post on the site late
-
We started the list in March 2007. Only the first 50 buyers have been contacted so far...
We will continue to contact people on that list once we start taking orders for framesets #51 through 100.
Once those are made, we'll then contact more people for sets #101 through 150.
-
Im on that elusive list and paid up but havn't receieved the new email. I thought i was in the first 50? oh well we'll see 8)
-
Any news on the retro 24" yet?
I've ordered the profile cranks, some nice beartrap pedals, and was gonna buy some 24" graphites to go on it, but not worth getting all this stuff now if the frame aint gonna be ready for ages, I want it to be a proper retro build.
Any updates on that yet?
Cheers!

EVERYBODY that paid a deposit already a few months ago (first 50) was sent an email a few hours ago for final payment.
If you did not get an email, and have already paid the deposit for a frameset, please email me at SkywayFrames@aol.com
Thanks!

Got my email :daumenhoch:
-
I was wondering if anyone has had an update from coloredtuffs.com (is his name Ed?). I understand he's got his hands full with a new baby but was hoping for some news.
I PM'd him a few weeks back and emailed the sales address on his site but haven't got a response yet. Also I saw the first fifty builds have moved from July to August.
Anyone heard anything. I know I should be patient...but I'm too excited. I've started sourcing the parts already :)
-
Ed can be really slow in returning emails!!! :(
-
i have paid in full for one of the first 50, i spoke to ed a couple of weeks ago and the farmes were on the way for powdering, but heard nothing since
-
Thanks matskybeat.
Did Ed approach you for the full funds or did you approach him? I'm keen not to loose out and as I've heard nothing since paying the deposit a few months back I'm getting a bit anxious. :-\
Cheers

ed sent a paypal request for the outstanding balance, i wouldnt worry too much, if you have paid a deposit you should be ok
-
hey guys...
It's been awhile since I've been here... I've had my hands full. New baby, and tropical storms have filled my life with lots of work and long nights!
Here's an update-
The first 50 people on the list were contacted for completed payments a few weeks ago. The framesets were welded, and are now at the powdercoaters. Once the framesets are done, which should be VERY soon, I'll be driving down to South Florida to pick them up. I'll then sticker the frames and forks, and box them up for shipping.
I'll start contacting more people on the list again very soon for framesets 51 - 100.
Thats' the latest info!
-
I never got an email. :'(
-
Nor me, perhaps we made it into the next 50?
-

has anyone heard anything from them?
cheers for any help.

Just one thing......the totally aerodynamic decals need to be an inch away from the BB. :daumenhoch:

Just one thing......the totally aerodynamic decals need to be an inch away from the BB.
Ya know.... I have a photo from Skyway and the decals are where I have them on this frame. Heck, I've always placed them there anyway on my frames so it was in clear view outside the chainring.
BUT... after looking through all of the T/A pics on the VBMX museum, I'm seeing alot of them placed closer to the BB.
These stickers were always applied by hand by different people, so I'm sure that the EXACT spacing varies from frame to frame, but I'm thinking now that the decal should be closer. Luckily, the frame shown in the pic above is the only one I've stickered so far....
AL - if you sent in a deposit recently for the second batch, I haven't gotten around to printing out the orders yet, nor sending thank you notes. I'll do so within the next day or so.
-Ed
-
Deposit all paid up, just waiting for my next email now.....Can't wait :smitten:
Think the Mongoose Cali I was going to start on might have to wait
-
Damn They Look Good :smitten:, Its There Anything To Tell And Original And A 25th Anni Apart? I Know The Forks Are Different...
-
Can't wait to get mine :smitten:
-
The bottom bracket contains the original serial number and date stamp from 1986, and we've added a "2008" stamp on the BB as well. That's how you'll tell the difference.
-
Still waiting ED!!! LOL
-
Stickers!! :LolLolLolLol:

I somehow got myself onto the list despite not emailing my interest until really late. I was offered one of the latest batch, but decided against following it up in the end. Spent my money on my Rebel cruiser instead and I already have an original chrome '83 TA.
I do want a white one but i'd rather spend the money on an original. A nice white f/f went on ebay yesterday for only £300.
