I've got a pair or Red Shimano DX pedals where most of the red has come off the platforms and I'd rather strip it all back to silver. Paint stripper and a wire brush has got me some of the way there but it's very slow going and I can't get thos hard to reach places.
Have tried to remove the spindle and bearings so I could soak them but stuck fast.
Any ideas ???

b & q costic soda, mix with water and drop em in for about 30 to 45 seconds, do it outside though, when it is done rinse under cold tap, do not touch with hands until you have rinsed off, it burns like hell

works better in an ikea bin ;)

ah yes but some silly people dont wear gloves !!!!! no idea about health and safty ;D

DXs are not anno so do not use caustic soda as it will make your pins fall out, if some of the red came of with paint stripper then carry on with that, nitromors will eat it off easy,
caustic soda does remove anno , but as DXs are plastic coat then watch out, as the plastic coat does not come off with caustic soda , I know i have tried it, what will happen is the soda eats the alloy and loosens the pins as they are steel and they then fall out , leaving the coat on but no pins!

Will the caustic soda method work on Suntour XC-II cages??
Also with the anodising removed, if you do not re-anodise will they eventually start to rust??

if you do not re-anodise will they eventually start to rust??
no..u can only anodise alloy..alloy don't rust
-
alloy oxidises (sp) (pissed)
Just cluean em up, polish, and if required, paint

Got the Nitromors and removed the colouring tonight - well easy. Cleaned them up in about 20 minutes and back on the bike (compared to about an hour spent scrubbing with paint stripper previously to limited effect)
