Title: Torker on eBay / Torker Serial numbers
Post by: ozone on May 28, 2008, 10:57 AM
Apologies in advance for 'outing' this eBay auction but I always assumed all Torker serials began with the letter T.  The f+f looks right enough but the serial no. is troubling me.  The welds look a bit sloppy on the headtube gusset, too :-\ :-\

What do you y'all reckon???

Looks like a 280 or 280X - deffo not a pro-x.

If I haven't already had lots of these I'd have a go!

It looks right so why doesn't the serial start with a T.  (I'm probably wrong here but...)  I thought all Torker-built bikes did.  It couldn't be something knocked out at a later date by Torker2, could it?  That might explain those awful decals  :LolLolLolLol:

Nah it looks right to me.

Don't remember my serial numbers, but it could be he just read it wrong, or it's not stamped very well.

Updated how to tell which model Torker(83-85):

Torker 280: 18 inch toptube.... Flat plate or round tube rear brake mount

Torker 280X: 19 inch toptube.... Round tube rear brake mount

Torker Pro X: 20 inch toptube.... Gusset placed under downtube(like the Haro Gen 1)

Did anyone on here win the Torker?  ???

I got emailed by the seller and was told that the toptube length was 18 inches and the brake mount was tubular. Could be a 280 with a round brake mount. The bars are Torker Pro T bars. Nice buy anyways  :daumenhoch:

It was white, at the moment it's raw am going to treat it to the SBD treatment(white). It had about 4 layers 1 was yellow, When I got it, it had odd fork stickers. Once it's powdered I will sell it???

Did anyone see the Magnum 200 that finished on ebay today for £200?

Serial number puzzled me, so I didn't go ahead.  It didn't have a T at the start so I got nervous.   I've since discovered that this probably means it was an asian bike - does this sound true?

What was different about the Mangum anyway?  I've got a 280X and it looked very similar.  In the pricelists I saw in another post, it was shown as a much cheaper bike new than the 280X????

Yeah it finished today reserve not met .He wants £350 for it .Bit steep i think  :-\

I believe the Magnum was the cheaper bike offered by Torker - wasn't full chromo either.
