Title: Home media blasting kit
Post by: gmac on January 04, 2006, 12:19 PM
Are there any sensibly priced media blasting kits on the market, for DIY use ? I guess it's a bit limited by the amount of air pressure you can get, as to a price ?

Anyone got anything, or know about such wonderment ?

Cheers

Guy  :)

I got one of the Clarke blast cabinets. Problem is the air pressure (As you mentioned) My compressor isn't small but its not that big. You need a huge tank on it, otherwise you just run out of pressure. Im still considering getting a bigger compressor though as they are damn handy. Let me know if you decide to invest, I would be interested in your choice.  ;)

I've got an air compressor with a 50 litre tank, max 118 psi. That should be upto the job shouldn't it ?

This is the favorite cabinet at the moment  http://www.paintain.co.uk/Automo/garg_eqp/gseqp26.htm Might even get a frame in there, at an angle ?

Cheers

50 Litre sounds big enough, think mine is a 25 Ltr. Cabinet looks same as mine but quite a bit bigger. I would consider the kit you can buy that allows you to make your own cabinet, that's if you want to save some cash. Thats what I plan to do later on in the year. Going to use the gloves, gun and pipe connections off the one I have.

Sounds like a good idea. I'll have to find a kit and have a look.

Gmac

The sandblast guns typically use 14-16 cfm free air. Your 50l 118psi will probably deliver 7.5-8cfm. I think your doomed to failure unless I'v got my facts wrong.

All the bast cabs I have used have been on a big 3 phase compressor.
