I just laid my hands on a 1979 cali mongoose f/f and was thinking about what wheels to put on it when i get round to it.... ::)
:LolLolLolLol: still not completed general lees ripper...85% there.
The frame type has solid rear drop outs & has seen some chain rub action in the pass from the wrong wheel fitment ...but its been repaired 2 a good standard. :)
It has round tubing as all the oldest goose had, all the way down till it meets the drop out.
There is no coaster plate just incase some1 asks.
I tried my mrk 2 skyway graphites on the old girl but they will rub like mad :-\ so there not an option :tickedoff:
What hubs\wheel set will fit ??

Hey there ,
Loads of excellent reference material on here ( if you haven't already seen it ) , loads of the old brochures there etc .
http://www.vintagemongoose.com/
When you say "Cali" I guess you mean California made & not a Mongoose California , they came out around 1984 .
What's the serial number ? , If it's a 79 then Araya 7C's or 7B's , Ukai box rims or Motomags would be sweet ;) .

Would be good to see some pictures of it. As Matt says the 'Cali' Mongooses didn't come out until mid-80's.
As for wheels for the Motomag mongooses here are the wheels on my 1978 Mongoose DeCoster.

The Serial is ck9 2****0..
:LolLolLolLol:
Its the same colour as yours Stidds but with the thin tube team mongoose forks.
Looks ok but it could do with a fresh coat of paint as it's got scratches here & there..
When i can lay my hands on another digi camera i will take some shots of the old girl..
Thanks for the mongoose link.. :4_17_5:
I will go take a look.

My 1980 motomag had the rub too.
Running Tuff I's ok. On the 2nd pic of the coaster you can see the rub on the drive side seat stay - it was very common on this frame - the Team version had a flattened stay at the drop out to help the problem.
