:) We`ve had various headsets/bbs,pivotal seats, weird stems, cassette hubs/freecoasters on the rise over the last few years. Now what will manufacturers come up with or what other parts "need" a makeover????
-
seatless bikes
-
:) I could imagine that,we`re already halfway there-they`d look like 20"MTB trials bikes....Surprised that a freewheel instead of a front sprocket hasn`t been jumped on by BMX yet.

normal jeans ???

Scented brake blocks.....
-
solid tyres :LolLolLolLol:

With rod brakes?
-
hover bikes
-
old school style plastic seats.......
-
northern domination of old school series....
and national phenomenon of groups of middle aged me going dogging on bmx's....
gawarn you dirty bitches!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
khe ar doing a seat and post combo, plus there is a plastic seat on the market, surly there is nothing left to do?
-
- The return of front brakes.
- Slotted forks & stems for perfect alignment and no slip (however I understand the potential risks with this if you fall).
- All in one plastic seat & post combo's (as others have said)
- Disc brakes on the hub centre & hydrolic gyro's
-
Chrome frames making a huge comeback??
skin wall tyres back??
PADS!!! :daumenhoch:
-
a foldaway bmx you could fit in a sports bag :daumenhoch:

PADS!!!
Did Pads go "out"? Sh1t, wish someone had told me ;D

:LolLolLolLol: pads rule a bmx doesnt look right without them ;)
-
too right! so many kids say they love the pads on mine! :smitten:
some say they look a little gay! i wasn't sure if they were refering to the pads or the rider though ;)

I was at my local ramp the other week. Some young lad asked me what the foam thing on my frame was. >:(

Did he shut up once you got your rad on?

yeah i bet he quickly shut up then! :LolLolLolLol:
-
I think they were still a little stunned by the amound of brakes I had. One kid asked if Id been riding a long time, and then asked if my bike was an old one Id had for ages. I told him to shut up, and that it was brand new! :knuppel2:
KIDS!

no respect these days!............when i were a lad we used to................it wasn't like that when i were a lad.......... :LolLolLolLol:
did they ask you the three stock questions though Alex?
1. can you do a backflip?
2. can you tailwhip?
3. How much did your bike cost?
:LolLolLolLol:
-
Ive found another stock question is:
"How long have you been riding?".
When I say 26 years you can almost see their face drop, in a "shouldnt you be better? you cant even backflip" kind of way.

It's so true but then I remember when the questions were;
1. Can you do an X-up?
2. Can you do a 360?
3. How much did your bike cost?
Should I be worried that my current answer to the last one is '3 times what my car cost'?

deffo the rider.. :daumenhoch:
-
Ive been asked a few times "what are you training for?"
Ive replied, "nothing ... this is IT" ;D
-
What about chainring less/chainless bikes?....wasn't their a bike that had a kind of propshaft running the backwheel a few years back?
-
:) Seat/post combos never went away, been used on minis forever! Diamondback already did a prototype disc brake equipped racebike about 5 years ago. They`d get bent to death on a freestyle bike!
-
why don't you get any new school bikes with a double top-tube ???
bring back a proper freestyler ! :daumenhoch:
-
Probably start seeing more experimentation with race bikes after the Olympics. Ridiculously low weights (but at a price and with limited life spans). More carbon parts. Race bikes that have more in common with track bikes than BMX bikes. All good for the pros/sponsored riders, but out of reach for the majority of Joe Public.
-
Heywood....i think the disc will be in the middle of the hub, thus out of reach of legs/ground? you could run the hydrolic cable through the axel/hub body?? just a thought though ???
J.T..... yeah you're probably right there mate! :2funny:
Alex......if i could do a quarter of what you pull off on that bike i'd be the happiest man alive!
-
Hydraulic gyro's are already out there, Eclat have plastic seat/post combo's, UNI are also making a comeback.
Like the idea of a freewheeling sprocket, they are using those on some trials bike's I think.
GT have BMX out with twin downtubes.

belt drive,s

:) Pickle:How would you get a hydraulic hose/cable to the centre of the hub? Not trying to shoot you down, but you`ll be rich if you sus that out!
-
i think it's do'able mate.....anything is possible! i wouldn't of thought they could do a hydrolic gyro but they have!
the hub body would hold both the disc (would abviously need a wheel rebiuld if you need to change though) and also have the caliper mount which would 'float' on the inside of the hub as well.....then the hydrolic cable would run through a hollow axel and up through the hub section (which wouldn't spin of course) and up to the caliper?? i know it sounds imposible but i'm sure someone will work it out?? ;)
-

Ive seen those freewheeling sprockets, I dont get it at all? Why would you want your chain and chainring spinning when you are rolling along without pedling? What about doing an air with the chain still spinning away? USELESS!
-
It'll look like those "Spinnerz" wheels you see on SUVs in hip hop videos :LolLolLolLol:

Good point Mike. I think I like them now!
They'd look even better with a 44 tooth chainring! 8)

How about a spring loaded haedset to help with barspins :D Pre load the spring one way and when you let go of the bars in the air "HEY PRESTO" a bar spin :daumenhoch:
-
was a bloke running a rear disc brake at rom a few years back
even worked in the rain lol
-
taller toptubes,
smaller bars,
heavier bikes,
48's,
brakes
-
Edible grips...
-
2 words - Spokey Dokeys. Gonna be massive in '08
-
itl all start going around again
bikes will get more colourfull
the race stuff will get used on the street
oops its broken , better make it stronger ;D
trials bikes have a continuous freewheel because when they are hopping around on the rear wheel and about to release the brake/put all your weight on the pedal for a gap the last thing you want is to find you chain has come off . so the clicking lets you know your ready to go . it also keeps the weight in the centre of the bike so makes it easier to throw around
ive given it a lot of pondering but to keep a sensible gearing with the largest freewheel being an 18t the rear would be a 7 or even a 6 and its hard enough getting a chain to go around an 8 ;D
big bars will come back in i think . id love to try some 9" , i have my stem flipped and stacked and it feels great for it
im sure someone will twig there is a market for tubless tyres and rims ::)
atomlab makes a hydraulic gyro , but bmx doesnt need discs . although ive seen a few maguras on bmx
maybe someone will give a fixed chainstay and eccentric bottombracket a go
am i right in thinking animal has made a rim with no braking surface ? im sure ive seen that
the tech end might give thermoplastics a go in levers and seatclamps , maybe even barends
different optioned durometer rated tyres
someones bound to rip off greg melms seatclamp idea :(
ooh , fluted tubed forks and ive always had a press in alloy steerer tube in the back of my mind
http://www.carbondrivesystems.com/ although i dont think were ready for the idea of splitting our stays :-\
edit - i always used to use spokey dokes but my mates kept telling me they thought parts were falling off ;D but ive found they can be pressed onto the nipple well enough :)
-
It'll stop being so sickeningly fashionable....?
-
Disc Brakes on a BMX? Now whoever had a disc brake on a BMX would be cool as fook.......
Oh hang on a moment, that would be me then wouldn't it? ;)
Here is my Fetish cruiser.

-
:) Stidds:That is stunning, but I know nothing about Fetish.Tell me more? Atomlab brought out a disc brake for BMX a few years back, that went on the unused side of a flip-flop hub...
-
am i wrong in my thinking that a 24" cruiser doesn't really count as a BMX? ???
looks cool as though :daumenhoch:
-
You shall have a 24" wheel rammed where the sun don`t shine (and I don`t mean Manchester) for even thinking that!
-
i'm not saying they're not.....i just don't class them as.......i just think of them as a single speed 24" MTB, i know its wrong but it's just how i see them. :idiot2:
-

I know they are but i just find it hard to take them serious as a BMX....they however things of beauty and you guys rock on them though :daumenhoch:
-
wow billy is that a set of doubles or a triple ya clearing there
-
wow billy is that a set of doubles or a triple ya clearing there
Thats just a small set of doubles Rhys, there`s a lot bigger jumps on that track (Andover) and some much bigger ones on the National tracks up North :daumenhoch:

that pics the nuts bill, aint seen that pic before :coolsmiley: very kool :daumenhoch:

I dont get what you are saying here. Freewheeling is freewheeling, no matter if its on the front or the rear sprocket? Do you mean they can hear it better cos its closer to them? I dont understand :crazy2:
maybe someone will give a fixed chainstay and eccentric bottombracket a go
Yeah, that would be a great idea for todays bikes. Its been done a few times on BMX's (for verious prototype bikes) but it was always using a euro BB or had a massive shell. You could probably to a nice one with a spanish or Mid BB
ooh , fluted tubed forks and ive always had a press in alloy steerer tube in the back of my mind
The Pitchfork XLT has an ally "X" extrusion pressed up the steerer tube.

Thats because you don`t venture into the racing section Dan ::)

beauty of a pic that 8)
alex - im in no way entirely clued up on trials but a few mates that have given it a go liked them as they know the chain is fine as its moving . but with the freewheel in the rear it could click without the chain being on the tooth . if you picture a normal rear freewheel that had just got a loose chain from hopping around the slack at the bottom might not engage with the teeth when the bike moves or is pedaled but htees no way of knowing unless yo had a looksie . with it on the cranks if it was slack any movement would have the chain off before any more hopping about happened . or something like that :-\
i stole this from wikipedia "Front freewheels can currently be found on bikes used for bike trials riding. Putting the freewheel on the crank allows some weight to be taken off the rear hub, centering the weight of the bike a little more, making it easier to lift the back wheel as well as simplifying the rear hub, allowing the bearings to sit as far outboard as possible, reducing bending on the hub axle. Because bikes with this set up are almost always singlespeed none of the gear shifting issues that arose in geared systems are problems with this arrangement. The reason for the adoption of front freewheels is likely to be due to the availability of extremely strong screw-on BMX freewheels before the advent of specific components for trials bikes. In fitting the freewheel to the cranks rather than to the back hub a smaller chainring size was possible at the cranks with a gear ratio suitable for trials, increasing the ground clearance of the bike. BMX freewheels could also carry more torque and were cheaper than mountain bike designed systems at the time front freewheels were introduced."
id like to see an eccentric bottom bracket in us size with mid bearings in offset cups , not too big , a thin us shell wouldnt weigh to much , cups and bearings would press in fine and it would give enough tension without upsetting the bb height . but its at the rear where it would really benefit as it could do away with plate dropouts and have the chain/seat stays meeting in a small tube large enough to put a socket into . but that closed method would negate a gsport type bolt in hub but theres no reason why a neat alloy clamp couldnt be made to bolt in a normal axle ( kinda like big dh bikes are using )
sure it would lose the adjustable chainstay length and the chain would have to be removed with a tool or split link but there wouldnt be any more miss aligned wheels and it would create a stronger structure . not to mention no longer having the wheel pushed around by missing grinds
i mean an entirely alloy steerer pressed in from beneath so it wouldnt part . but its one of those ideas thats not really a good idea ;D

carbon frames,forks,bars,pedals,rims,crank arms

How about a Mp3 stem and a chordless helmet / headphones :D

NOT having your jeans halfway down over your arse and your under crackers on show!!! ::)
