Wilson. The longest head tube in history.

Still got my sister's expert one in my Dads shed.

If I get a chance later I'll take a picture of it, it's got most of the DB turbo Lite components on it (after my Dad stupidly sold that frame).

So pleased no-one has mentioned TRM on this thread yet...
I'd forgotten about those Rebel bars though - scary! Look at that bit square set with the integrated stem. They'd make any bike look ugly. Anyone remember who was on the Rebel team apart from Steve Bigland (or was there even a team, did people just race the frames?)

Not got a scooby doo matey.

but.

Here is what i was told by Timmy M (not mallet) when i asked him a few questions (can be read here - http://www.radbmx.co.uk/index.php?pid=2 )

Quote
ORB - Can you tell me a bit about the Badlander, as I am rebuilding one and I guess you are the man to ask!!

Tim - Ok here we go, the MRD Badlander was designed by Neil Stevens and myself. It was the first bike to feature a 75% head angle and heavier gauge tubing than the other MRD’s, GT nicked our bent down tube idea. The bikes were made by Rickman engineering in New Milton who also made the Rickman frames but not Curtis. Our frame tubes were mitred which no other company was doing either. All tubes were 531 Reynolds and Reynolds recommend braising as a superior alternative to tig.

SRE frames were superb Steve Saunders was a big dude indeed, Oldmankev would know Steve they were the same age group (I think).

You could include TRM in this as someone did win a national on a TRM freestyler bitd, I will see if I can find who it was.

Steve Saunders was crazy fast wasn't he.  I remember Lee Summers (another rival of Kev's) used to always get blown away by him and end up going home in the car in the worst mood, was quite funny though.  ;D

:LolLolLolLol: The Hounslow water jump, that was the funniest thing ever, I have that picture from BMX Action bike.  I will post it tomorrow Kev.  We laughed all the way home about that, he was NOT impressed, I laughed my tits off.

Look forward to seeing that again, and that awful lid he used to wear.

His black Pro-Tec lid?  I hated that thing, full Kuwahara get up and a black pro-tec helmet, how sad.  We tried and tried to get him to change, but he was a stubborn f*cker.

Might have been, although I don't think I was the only one to have won a national on that frame.  ::)

Below is a picture from 1984 NMBMXA British Championships in Derby. I sure Dale won't mind me mentioning he was in that race too.  ;)

I've had a quick skim through this forum and it is wonderful to see some old names.

Derrick

p.s. I would love to see the vid from Wigan! I have very little left of my racing years.

Yes that's correct Jas. Steve Bell also won an NBMXA National on a freestyler frame.  ;)

The age classification system worked against Steve. If his birthday had been a couple of weeks later he would have avoided the likes of Wayne Llewelyn, John Dalton and the other big lads, he would have been in with me. :)

Have you got many 'BMX Action Bike' magazines from that era? Mine have dissappeared.  :-\

All I have left is a program from Derby 84, nothing else. Mom and Dad have a few photos somewhere, mainly Deddington nationals but no mags!!

I used to ride for a very small bike manufacturer from MK bitd called Boss , very light frames but a little bit on the fragile side ! .

I'll try & find some pics if I can .
