Hi all
need history of the above ~ as always appreciated
AD
-
once up on a time there were some aero reflexes in a warehouse in Brizzel. JT71 bought two pallets of em. the end.
-
ive always wondered why there are so many reflex f+f knocking about??
whats the story with that??
did they come out just before the arse fell out of bmx leaving Aero with a warehouse
full of them? or is there other reasons to why there's so many nos ones around now?
-
Were cheeeeeaaaaaap, still cheeeeeaaaaaaap :)
-
weren't very desireable BITD I don't think.
or now. lol. unless you give em away.
-
but there were plenty of cheap un desirable f+f's BITD
where are all those?? ?
-
was the reflex made here? was that the issue, british made in a big quantity to a small market?
-
Classic joe :LolLolLolLol:

Chill dude... ;)
I'm guessing no one knows the history of em, so many NOS ones are sold at the moment makes me guess they're still made somewhere?
Have a look at feedback on Alans ebay account you'll wonder the same as me... they knock out shedloads of em on ebay!
-
You know what my theory is? I reckon these frames are made and sold so cheap in order to lure poor, unsuspecting souls into old school BMX. Then once your in, your destined to never leave.
Just before xmas (i.e. 6 months ago) I bought one from Alans, just so I could say I have an old school frame. That wa supposed to be it. I now own a complete T/A, complete Streetbeat, building a Rebel freestyler, a Pro-lite Trackmaster f&f and two sets of Reflex f&f's. I have also owned and sold another complete Reflex, a complete Robinson Pro, another Streetbeat f&f, another Pro-lite f&f and another two Rebel f&f's. See what I mean? Madness...
In all seriousness, I dont think they are still being made, just look a lot of the other NOS stuff thats still about, brakes, posts, stems, seats etc. Just another unsold batch of old school parts.
The boxes they come in look old and aged. Just a bad case of supply and demand going wrong back in the day. Or maybe a wagon load were highjacked in 1988 and have only just been released from the police vaults? But they will run out one day, im sure of that. And everyone will kick themselves that they didnt buy one more at £25 a pop.
Think about it, £25 for a decent oldschool frame and forks in chrome. Madness.

dannywhiteley
many thanks for that , very interesting and sounds spot on , on what you say magnificent

AD
PS: back to what i first ask HISTORY of the Aero Reflex need as much info as possible no matter how small the information it all helps
thanks all
-
hang on to em guys. shiners only have a few left now. think somone said less than 50 so after that there are no more :daumenhoch: and the prices go upski!!
-
Nothing wrong with a Reflex! Fine for an OS build on a budget!
-
didnt i read somewhere that there was a warehouse full of reflexes and it got infested with spiders and no one would go in there to retreive them so they were left for years
could be wrong but someone must know
great bike for a first build and that performer/reflex is what started me off on here nearly two years ago
heres my old one
(http://www.radbmx.co.uk/archive/albums/g279/spesh1967/100_0444.jpg)
-
When i first started going to shiners 5/6 years ago there was a warehouse full of them 200/300+ and it
was the same for the Haros & skyways just loads of them over the years they have dried up now its the
turn of the Aero reflex's not many left now
Sorry don't know any history of them but i'll ask Chris

I'm sure the f&f was going for £125 bitd, I've seen it advertsied in an old BMX Action mag...will try and dig out the ad and post it up.
As for other history, when I got mine, there was an A4 size leaflet about the Reflex, can't recall what it said but will have a look for that as well :daumenhoch:
Paul :)

they all come with that A4 letter it's from Aero and lists Shiners as the distributor. It's not dated, but is pretty old, no "1" after the "0" on the phone numbers. The 01 came in in 1995 so the letters are at least that old, and probably ten years older than that.

yes you f***ing knob, because that's a London number. The code was 01. obviously now it's 0208 or 0207.
if you cast your mind back to when you were less of a retard you will remember the number for your home phone was 0789, where as now it'll be 01789.
I knew there would one mongoloid who pointed that out.
see the shiner number that's 0272, it might have become 01272, but at some point Brizzel numbers got totally changed so they had a 0117 code then a 7 figure number.

I get the very strong impression it no longer exists. only the reminance of what was there B4. Im pretty sure that there is no longer ther company at Imperial studios but I can check as I am often in the area. I was there yesterday infact.

According to Companies House records, the company was dissolved on 22-01-91.

I wonder how many Alans and Vert-Ego have left? I got about 25, five of which are spoken for.
if I can fire the other 20 out a bit sharpish I might have them last two pallets. :LolLolLolLol:

Always liked Aero's very underrated bikes :daumenhoch:
-
Yep, supposed to ride real nice and at such a low cost, worthwhile building a cheap rider while you still can.
Perhaps we should re-ignite the idea of an AERO RELEX build-off (one was started a couple of years ago but never really went anywhere)?
What do you guys reckon?

would be a good winter project, aero build off. :daumenhoch:

Can anyone tell me the geometry of the AERO, have bought one off one of the JT's not collecting it till 28th at creation, if it has a short top tube thinking of building it for my son, like the idea of a AERO build off. Like to see one with all top Hutch parts inc Aerospeeds
-
it's a short top tube that's for sure.
Wardy no need for drugs, it's Bow time. I'm chilled, I just like giving Steveo Sh1t.

Just found the ad in BMX Action Bike Feb85, Rad City (South Benfleet, Essex) were selling the frame and fork set for £125 (P&P was £2.50 ;D)
Just looking at the ad, a DP Firebird f&f for £69 , Skyway f&f for £145, Curtis f&f for £129, so the Reflex looks like it was up there in price
Bloody hell Rad City were also selling Dia Compe MX 1000 complete for £19.00
-

no your right just reflex F&F's
BITD Shiners brought nearly everything that Aero made and that included just over a 1000 reflex F&F's and obviously bmx died and so they were left
with 100's of them
-
blooming great f+f for the money! lets face it, what else can you buy for twenty odd quid?? :daumenhoch:
looking forward to picking mine up at creation too :daumenhoch:

Thats a great idea Dave,
I have a F&F still in it's box, haven't even taken it out, just bought it cos it was £28 posted from Joe !! I have a ton of spares to build it, but the Decals are totally wrong !
Does anyone do custom decals for it? (Silly question cos I know ya gonna say DEL???)
I may even get a custom set of 'Monkeybiscuits!' decals made, that'd be proper fuuuuuuuuny !! ;D
-

Fook me, if only I could find a distro in this day and age who was prepared to take 50 frames never mind 1000!
-
one of the main problems with the Reflex though is if you build it with good bits and then sell it you will almost always get more for it broken than as a whole. Maybe we'll make them cool and desireable.

ahhh Rad City - Mecca for every Essex lad BITD - they sold everything - we would just go to stare at the shiny things we werent allowed...
Mate went to buy a new Hutch Pro Star and Brian of Rad City had sold the last in stock so he convinced him to buy a JMC Andy Patterson (no. 14 i think) instead - Touch as he still has it...

I can still see that DB Harry Leary Turbo in that shop staring at me, the one my Dad wouldn't buy me ! >:( :(

one of the main problems with the Reflex though is if you build it with good bits and then sell it you will almost always get more for it broken than as a whole.
I made a nice profit on my Reflex, and didnt even use good parts. I built this Reflex over xmas, my first OS build. Cost me around £120 in NOS generic 'BMX' parts - including the frame (didnt include the Aeroyal when I sold it). The most expensive (and best) part of the whole bike is the DC 901 brakes I paid £38 for. I got £285 for it, after the buyer literally pestered me to sell it to him.
Its since been on ebay 2 or 3 times since for progressively lower prices. I used that money to fund my Streetbeat and never looked back.
-
i saw them for 25 notes on ebay and thought hhhhmmm too cheap, if i honestly wasn't so stuborn on firebirds i
would have bought one brand new in the box, its a shame for the company they got lumbered with so much
stock when mountain bikes fcuked things up.
a mate of mine rode one in competitions bitd and it cost nearly 400quid in 87.
after reading this if you want one nows your chance, brand new old school for 25 that was 125 in the 80's :D

infact this will be my second one as i've had and sold one before :daumenhoch:
great f+f for the cash mate.....and for that sort of price i couldn't say no!

As I say I already have two, but might even get a third. Just cos they are such a bargain.
-
they will be an expensive item , as soon as there is no more around it will come to that one-day I'm sure
Adam
Invest Invest Invest i say no more
-
i rode one at dartford heath and it was rubbish, i agree with all the rest of the points, thats the only thing stopping me getting one.

I seem to recall they also made a race frame using the same forks and also made bars as well but don't recall seeing a set, unless I'm mistaken which is always a possibility :LolLolLolLol:. Anyone remember the race frames and bars?

still not much history then :yahoo_silent:
