this is something that I have wanted to do for a number of years, but never had the means to do it. Well, the time has come. It has been built 100% factory 84 correct and the frame was modified to emulate the look of the "unicorn" single top tube sport. Mods include removal of the standing platform, extenfing the top tube, filling of the chevrons on the headtube gussett, fork mods which included dropout smoothing and removal of peg holes and finally, removal of the flair on the rear drops.
Most would say I'm nuts. Some would say it looks cool. Did I cut up an 84 sport? not a chance. Is it an actual haro? Yep, FST 85....was easier to deal with the no standing platforms in the rear & adding the fastback seatstay & brake bridge.
Hack job? perhaps, but as a complete bike....ya gotta admit, pretty cool. Hope the haro collectors enjoy. Will be on the for sale block soon.
Signed and discussed with Mike Dominguez at Rockford 2008. Enjoy. :daumenhoch:

I like that, it looks like a lot of work has gone into getting it right, excellent job. Were you able to fabricate a new gusset without the chevrons stamped in? be good to see some more close ups :daumenhoch:

I do like stuff thats not your usual replica, very sweet, and very interesting :daumenhoch:
-
I like it too :daumenhoch:
I wonder if the real single toptube Sports are out there somewhere waiting to be found & added to my collection ;)
Nice work :4_17_5:

Yep - kind of weird but cool :daumenhoch:
-

good to see something different
-
Awsome job fella :coolsmiley:
-
Yeah very cool.....it is a lot of work as you say but hell, hats off to you for having the balls to do it!
I'm sure one of the real prototypes will surface one day, surely Sigur, Mike D or Bob himself would have kept one just for posterity, I know I would have!
What did MD reckon to it anyway?
Daz. :daumenhoch:

He gave a bit of insight into the 2 that were made that he remembered. one chrome, 1 white. He mentioned that the white one was the "show" boat and got all the publicity for the magazine ads and the chrome one was the rider. He mentioned that the chrome one had the dropouts of the 1st gen freestyler but without the holes. Just brought back a lot of cool memories he said.
Was kind of neat to hear that from him. He could appreciate what it was, fabrication or no. good times.

I'm sure I read a quote from Bob himself that when asked about the single top-tube Sport, he couldn't remember it. If that's true, safe to say he hasn't got one ! ;)

I often wondered if it did exist ,well it does now :daumenhoch:

Congrats again for the good work Pep ! :daumenhoch:
This bike had to be done for sure, and you're the first one.
Besides the attention to details on the frame, I enjoy looking at it with all these NOS parts...
What about a black frame pad?

Will be on the for sale block soon.
Shame your selling it after all that effort Pep,great looking bike,I'm thinking of hacking up a sport to do the same, might have to do rich's now though ;D
Looked like it made quite a impact at Rockford and you must of been pretty proud to get a story from MD from it,and the signature to prove................Brilliant.

working on the frame pad & then potentially the shotgunII, straight post & finally the number plate & front brake to go for the Trick or street bike.
It will probably stick around for a while Jay...not many want to buy a "modified" project such as this. Getting some details from Mike D was awesome. Geniune nice guy. the autograph was a nice touch also. Rockford was actually pretty quiet...it was after the fact that people started talking about it.
