Title: Coloured alloy nipples!
Post by: shortie on June 27, 2008, 05:18 PM
Alright guys,

I'm looking to build a nice set of chrome cruiser rims with blue Bullseye Hubs for my 90's Floval and wanted to bling it up a bit with blue nipples.

The guy at my local bike shop however says that alloy nipples are a nightmare to get tension on and he'll only use stainless nipples.

Any help on this would be cool as I've seen loads of bikes on here with coloured nipples so presumed it would no problem?

Cheers
Mark

a few bad landings and they can pop mate ,rips the threads out ,this can also happen on trueing them up.
some are fine but imo dont bother unless its for show and light riding.

i think racers use them for shaving a fraction of a gram of rotating weight and they would be willing to change them periodically

stainless steel though  :-\ i thought they were brass

im waitng for the new gsport tapered jobbies for ham fisted types like me  :)

Right!.....alloy nips will always be weaker than steel or brass, BUT......unless you're planning
on really riding HARD, they should'nt be a problem.
As for building up, I have had no problems in the past with them-
anyway....they are only about 14quid for a set from Alans......so why not try?
I recently laced mine into araya Himiko's with G sport hubs and they look superb.
