Title: Skyway TA dodgy weld?
Post by: dj B silverlite on July 06, 2008, 01:22 PM
Easy all ive got this one from the bay but upon stripping it found that there seems to be some weld missing on the bottom tube that meets the bb :wtf:. Is this how they were or a factory mistake? It could be weight saving but i think thats a bit too anal for just a bit of weld. :P Ill put some pics up to show what im on about. The serial is 0000378 cheers  :daumenhoch:

Shame ... cause it's quite an early frame too  ???  it's proof that even Skyway made mistakes BITD  :knuppel2:

Are you thinking of getting it sorted ?

I've got a streetbeat with a completely misaligned/badly welded back end, made in Taiwan. Skyway (bart) used to deny that any of their product ever had a fault and always USA made, photos later.

Send a pic to colored tuffs and see if he can get a response from the Skyway dudes!   :LolLolLolLol:

I'd say that makes it a pretty rare frame so long as it's not a rider for the older more fuller BMXer (i.e. us old farts!) should be worth cleaning up with coke and foil or oxalic acid and keeping  :daumenhoch:.

There is a great story of an early S&M that went out with the dropouts only tack welded on. It got powder coated so it was missed all together. The bike was an Xmas prez and was built up and put under the tree. When the kid sat on it, the back wheel shot across the room, with the dropouts still attached!

Bad ... but funny!

I think you should give it to me, i would not like you to hurt yourself on it! aint i considerate ;D

No seriously, leave it as is how long has it been like it and it does not seem to have done it any harm. If anything it makes it more desirable in my opinion, gives it a story, and we all like one of those, we all liked jackanory didn't we.

Nice find is it a complete frame set :daumenhoch:

Don't weld it, if you do the warranty will not be valid...
