to be fair Alans have given him a full refund but wouldn't want anyone else to make this mistake as it would appear
they re-listed the same bike as NOS.

the chap that returned it didn't really get much joy out of alans, other than he got a refund. minus his postage in the end i think.

this was the reply he got initially:

Well it is NOS and never ridden I know because we built it up,
keep in mind those are 20 yr old parts, if it does not have VX
cranks it has Maxy Cross and that might be my mistake. What
parts are "clearly ridden quite a bit"? Anyway, not a problem,
you can ship it back but please make sure it is properly packed
up as we sent it out, its just that any bikes we get back are
improperly packed and get damaged.
Best regards
Alan Woods

Where do I buy the one in the first piccy from it looks mint   :)  That just takes the piss, how can they relist it again  :tickedoff:

The only dealings I've had with Alans (apart from my Mum and Dad buying me a Robinson from there in 82) was ordering some Old School tyres that didn't turn up, when I phoned to ask where they were they said they were in another warehouse and it might take a bit to find them  :wtf:  so I just asked them to refund me.  Then I ordered some new school bars that said 'in stock' on the website but they phoned me about 4 days later to say they weren't.  So I've given up on them and take my business someplace else that offer a bit of customer service.

mixed reviews from me really...............i've ordered plenty from them and had absalutley no issues at all, other than when i ordered two Dirty Harry levers that said in stock, then got a call to tell me that the left one wasn't and would be in within the month!  but they arrived about a week or so later.

other than that they've always been good to me  :daumenhoch:

I went to alans to buy a cheap full face helmet for OS.

£50-60 and it sounded italian (I forget the name)

I get there and chappie says they dont sell em.

I told him I checked the website this morning and it was on it.

He even checked the website and still said they sold out ages ago.  He asked another chappie and he too said they were sold ages ago.

So I decided to spend an extra £20 and get the next cheapest lid.

The lad decided to go out back and get the next size because the display lid was too big.

And out he pops with the cheap helmet that I went shopping for.

He found a stack of them!!

He'd been telling his customers for the last few weeks that they were out of stock but there they were!!! :(

Also a few other items that were on the website as 'In Stock' weren't when I called in.

Apart from that time, I haven't had any problems.

Back about 4 to 5 years ago Alans seemed to be spot on,other than he was a bit hard to get hold of if you needed to speak to him direct? he used to always stick summat etc in your order etc and you got what you ordered when you got it...but this past year or so I think the service as a whole has gone down hill :( He's still a good old schooler but as your old school report used to say? "Could do better?" :-\

I bought a nice rare pair of bars recently from him on ebay and while im not going into the full story again, I basically got the wrong item shipped to me by mistake.  Fair play I thought, but it was the complete lack of interest when I called up (sounded very similar to the attitude in the emailed response above) that really pee'd me off.  I got my bars in the end, but suffice to say I wouldnt shop there again.
