Cool pics Si , who be de Ginger Master ?
-
Rad pics fella
Grate to see the late and great Rob Indri in there. UK BMX hasnt been the same without him.
The track that you think is Ipswich isnt! its Hounslow :daumenhoch:
JJ
-
was going to put hounslow.... was choice of two...
I grew up with Rob, he was one of the most infuriating but talented people i ever met - and missed greatly..
but he used to spit constantly!!! and he couldn't mend bikes at all! used to butcher them... miss you buddy
the Ginger Master is Paul Bennett
-
cool pics, the track you couldn't remember in the SE was Folkestone Flyers, (my local).possibly late 84 early 85? That last pic of woodham is how i remember it, from a regional in around '85?
Who was in you age group back then Si?
-
someone else had said folkstone - glad i know now.
i used to race rob hardy, rob indri must admit i dont remember many names - im 37 now - i raced until about 88
-
Funny looking at the pic of Folkestone, i always remembered them whoops as being like two little stones, thought they were pathetic, dont look so small now. You must've been in the year below me then, but can't think of anyone off the top of my head who was in that year locally....perhaps Steve Renham, I think thats him in the back ground in the first corner in Raleigh gear.
-
they couldnt have been that big as im jumping them.....
-
from memory think they were only about a foot high and about bike and a half apart, but back then i was used to jumping big doubles at wigan, birmingham wheels etc etc, so these were more like two small speed jumps.
Trouble for me is i still have the same mentallity and want to jump everything, thats why i'm keeping away from herne Bay, so i don't hurt myself, cos i really can't see me getting over the first straight at any speed with out getting airbourne, and they are too big for me to just hit them banzai with out a lot more confidence, although would rather learn to ride them at speed :LolLolLolLol:
-
Excellent pics Si. I love all the old pics of Woodham as I spent so much time down there but dont have a single pic from bitd.
It is also good to see the old treasure island pics from Danbury, shame it got knocked down that place was the bollax. You should come down there for a blast on your MTB, there is still some killer trails and runs down there.
-
Great pics, i always had more pics of me an my mates messing around than i had racing.
I posted these a while ago but heres few more pics of woodham a bit later in 87.

I spent a fair amount of time there meself in me younger days, was a shame TI got bulldozed. I started riding back there last year, the local boy on the Kona Stinky showed us some great trails. riding a full-susser is definitely easier on my old bones than a BMX is round there!!!
