Close friend and former racing buddy has just taken these two out of his loft, We are going to start cleaning them up next week and the Race inc will be used for the McMillan London City ride in a few weeks (see Pickles thread in MK Events, sign up if you havent heard about it)
The Race Inc is pretty special, late 80's Profiles with Redline Flite ring, 7X with TNT Hubs, Boss Stem, but what are the bars?? He got them off Dylan Clayton end of the 80's we cant remember who he rode for - i think they could be Fred Z bars or DK Bars? Any ideas....

This apparently is a MCS but we dont know anything other than it was Rob Indri's who we grew up with, he raced it for a while but couldnt get on with it.
but the parts are again impressive, SE Powerbars, Early DK Stem, Haro Group 1 Cranks - anyone tell us anything about the frame???

Bars are MCS Ron C, or Fredz, look a bit more like Fredz to me.
They have just started remaking Ron C for cruisers.
Frame is a Magnum 37/Magnum 2000, essentially the same except different years.
MCS is a little underrated, built top quality bikes, i've got a Magnum group 24 cruiser, rides sweet.
That Race inc is the nuts :smitten:
-
i thought they might be Fred'z but someone else thougth they were MCS Ron C's
thanks for the info on the frame though.... do you know the years vs. models so we might be able to find out via the serial numbers.
-
Just packed away my old mags, but i'll dig em out and have look through.
I think the Magnum 2000 was earlier say about 81-83, then magnum 37 83-85.
They then changed the rear dropouts to under the chainstay (like zeronine)
Like I said i think they are Fredz bars, i'm sure i've got a pic in a mag somewhere.
-
deffo not ron c bars, but i'd be interested in the boss stem if it ever wants a home :daumenhoch:
-
i think the bottom tube of the bars would be angled for dk. look like ron c's to me. that race inc is nice as fook. those power wings should be sold fairly easy ;)
it looks like an early magnum, the gusset behind the BB tells me so. the later ones had stays that met in a point with the dropout welded on the underside of the chainstays.

the site has changed, there used to be a lot more about the old models.
-
Don't look to have enough rake for Fred Z's, I like Fred Z's but I would hate those bars because they are almost straight.
-
Frame is looks to be one of these.
Magnum 37

This pic is an 87 model, it seems mcs made the magnum series from around 81/82 on.
This is the 88 model, note the different rear dropouts
(http://www.radbmx.co.uk/archive/albums/kk42/fouronethreeoh/mk/P8050002.jpg)
So its between 81 and 87, difficult to pin down exactly, im not sure if mcs serial no's mean much.
As for the bars, i couldnt find any pics of fred'z, but the fred'z team was running mid to late 80's
Ron c's werent made until 1990 i would go with fred'z.
I wasnt in the market for another frameset, but if you decide to sell drop me a line, defo interested.
Cheers

Check here for DK bars,
very close but the crossbar looks higher, and larger diameter.

Cheers, that rukes them out - im going with the Fred'z - i used to have a pair and they defo had the bar at the bottom where the stem clamps same as on the race inc.
Thanks guys, be sure to say high when you see us at the City Ride on the 21st - hopefully she'll be a tad shiny.
-
any chance the boss stem may go the journey? ::)
-
he wont sell it - if that is your question... anything on the MCS that may be a different matter as it was built up for his GF to ride around on. The race inc was his race bike and will be restored.
-
thank fook for that :LolLolLolLol: got nothin to put it on and can't really afford somethin i ain't gonna use but been fancyin one for a while, just bein greedy, lovely stems :daumenhoch:
-
Stripped the Race Inc and the has come up lovely - bit of scrubbing with brillo pads in the kitchen sink and at all looking rather nice - scuse the dodgy camera phone pic.
Wheels are away having new spokes and bearings.
Should be built by the weekend - will post up once completed...

Ha Ha - She buffed up a treat..... honestly you wouldnt want it - its horrible....
-
defo Fredz bars, I have a black pair here somewhere....
-
Lookin good.
Forgot to say before that fred'z bars were made by cyclecraft.
I had a ride out once on a Race inc, it was an RA10, which was the aluminium version
without any gussets, much the same design as your one.
Heres a little pic
