Hi there - I’ve just bought a set of Redline cranks off Ebay (second hand but the seller said he’d bought them NOS and only had them on his show bike...). Anyway one of the bottom bracket cups is a bit notchy, almost as if there’s some grit in the sealed bearings. I’ve never messed with bottom brackets like this before (only could afford cheap rubbish BITD) and would appreciate any advice on whether this is normal or if there’s an easy remedy.
Cheers

sounds more like he has crushed the bearing either putting in or removing....

Try replacing the bearings, most good shops will stock a like for like replacement :daumenhoch:

Thanks for the advice - the seller has agreed to take them back. They were not especially cheap so will get a new set and try not to bugger up fitting them :-\

press them in and don't whack them in with a hammer :-\ my guess is the seller has caught the bearing whilst trying to knock the cups out ???

any of the 19mm sealed BB's will be fine

yep as Crooch says, i bought a DK 19mm BB from Custom riders, about £20 and works a treat! they even come in diferent coloured spacers :daumenhoch:
