A large majority of us on this site sell stuff to one another and use paypal. Either to send or receive money, and if your like me hate being charged for accepting money.
Well I have discovered a little loophole to help avoid charges, which some may already know but I thought I would share for the benefit of the RAD family. Now this only really works outside Ebay and Paypal assume you know the person you are sending/receiving money from. So addresses need to be exchanged seperately via email/pm. You would also have to ensure you trust this person in case of things getting lost, etc. Refunds could be a sticking point otherwise.
Log into Paypal as you would normally and click the send money tab. This will bring up the following screen

Fill the info in as normal but under Purchase dont select anything. Click the tab Personal on the right and a new screen will appear like this

On this screen choose gift or personal payment owed and send money. When the other person receives it there is no paypal charge.
If anyone would like to make a donation, to say thanks for my money saving scheme. Then send it to the RADBMX fund and mark as Kuwahero GIFT. Remember to use the method above :LolLolLolLol:

Have had a few people now send me money this way and none of them have mentioned that. If its true then its not such a good thing. Can anyone else who has used this method confirm this

That might be good if you know the person but like Marc said you'd have to be very sure of the person you send the money to.
If your buying goods off someone you dont know then you'd have to put in goods and a description of the goods in case they dont turn up. Putting it in as a gift would mean you have no recourse to get ya money back!!! :(

Ahh well i just tried it and.......if you pay direct from bank account it is free :) but if u use a credit card you get charged 3.6% :daumenhoch:

just tried it myself now and it worked fine and didn't ask me to accept charge. Kendo did you have money in your Paypal account or was it coming from your card as this may have had something to do with it.

well, it makes a change from the 3,6% charge on the recieveing end, fecking credit cards. if you can't afford it outright, don't buy it.

Now I've made some payments this week with no charge, one quite a high amount. And I just tried to send a few hundred and they tried to charge and wouldn't let me do an instant bank transfer, leaving the only option as credit card or echeque. So the only option was then the card they charge you for or the shit echeque way that's taken up to 10 days to clear in the past. If you click on the why box of no instant transfer option it says something about the system detecting a risk (because I've spent some lumps already this week?) and to protect potential fraud and eliminate risk. Which is dog shit because it then says you are at just as much risk from the other methods offered so it's just a big swizz to screw you for money. Anyway, with a bit of experimenting I found it accepted a limit of £130 without charging and allowed me to make a few payments of that sum to the same person on an instant transfer fee free.

Sureley if we are trying to avoid using paypal/ebay, then we should actually not use them? ???

pity we cant do anything about import duty???
Ray when you put down the value on the shipping docs we pay duty - just got hit for another £25 to pick up those rims....
if you mark it under £50 theyll not charge...
thanks none the less - all arrived safely.

I sold something to Swivel and he paid me via paypal as a 'Gift' and there were no Paypal charges 8)
reap it while ya can, paypal will soon put a stop to it for sure, the greedy feckers :knuppel2:

Does doing it this way mean the buyer (i.e. person sending the money) pays the charges instead of the seller (i.e. person receiving the money)?

you have to have the funds in your paypal account for them not to charge and you have to do it as a personal payment - if you dont have the funds it gives you the option to pay the fees yourself or pass them over to the receiver .

It has to be less than 36USD to avoid import duty on each item. I've bought plenty of frames and forks especially using this loophole and got the seller to put "child's bicycle parts" on the CP72 customs form, with the individual items being listed, ie $36 frame, $36 forks and $36 headset etc as this gives you a chance to get some of your cash back if they get lost.
Obviously if it get lost and you paid £300 for a posh frame you're in trouble, as the insurance only pays $36 per item :uglystupid2:

ps - worst thing was I won a load of auctions off some retard, all for bits and pieces all worth less than $36 anyway, and the special numpty at the other end added them all up and put "ebay auction" on the label. Had to pay duty and storage on the damn lot in a single sum, despite taking the action numbers with me as Parcelforce don't care, you just pay them and they tell you tyo take it up with Customs & Excise.
