Hi folks :daumenhoch:
I had my beady eye on this at MK08 and couldn't believe it when Greg (motomag) decided to sell it. The frame and forks were originally purchased by 'The Ruler' Graham at MK07, which I believe was in its original black paintwork finish. I think it's claim to fame bitd was the dual braking system along with the use of a coaster.....3 brakes on the rear!!

Anyway after much fettling by Greg :4_17_5: , it's now a white swan (some may disagree!!) so I now want to do a proper parts build for this. Thus if anyone has any pics, tests or parts info, that would be brill.

I do have a copy of BMX Action Bike Feb 85 with the Scorpion ZX Freestyler (tested by Dave Currie) and has Action Zone bars (rare to find??). The frame/fork is stickered (with props to Del) as an SF 201 so not sure if the components were the same as the ZX?

I read somewhere on Rad that didn't Andy Irwin do a test (and recently commented it was crap :LolLolLolLol:) so any history, pics etc would be cool.

Many thanks once again...and apologies for the excessive photos...I'm in love :smitten:

Here's some rare BITD shots of a mates ride.
This was bought as f&f rather than complete bike.
My apologies to him if he sees these pics.

:)That`s a real nice looking frame. A mate has modded a Dragonfly 2-1 cable thingy on a NS bike and has 2 rear brakes.Maybe you could do something along those lines for this,as I doubt you`d find an original Scorpion one.
-
I've got a picture somewhere on my other PC, but it's tucked away whilst I'm decorating.
-
Thanks so far.....cool pics from the old days as well
Just found a post by Greg (previous owner) regarding the same thing......and some interesting replies/articles, seems it was a bit of a pig bitd.

The SF201 had acorns :crazy2: and sold for £180 complete at Halfords...oh dear :(
Still haven't lost my love for it though :smitten:

The picture of the black one is the one I have :daumenhoch:
(I can't believe you could buy a BlueMax back then for £130)
-
Paul, here's a couple scans I did when I was looking for info on the decals I made for Greg...

Sir Dave of Stodge had some action zone bars up for trades about a week ago, if any help paul.
-
some of the breakdancers never ran the 2 rear brakes and the ones that did tended to bust
so we ran 2 rear levers and independant cables .so on the bars 3 levers left side as normal rear
right side front in original place and rear underneath it was shite but worked on some tricks using your thump strange but true.
-
Ok, couldn't resist, have built her up (very lightly as I don't want to mess the paintwork up) with minty red and white NOS parts, not the final spec planned, but it was just begging to be built.
Started about 8ish and just finished 23.50pm (with cups of tea and biccies supplied by the misses).....but now it's time for beddybyes......so will post pics up in the next day or so :)
Paul :)
-
you git, telling us its built and then making us wait all night for piccys :LolLolLolLol:
-
Come on paul let's see it.
your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to find a two cable brake lever.

Just sold them. Rare as hens teeth, took 3 years to find and then I sold them. I am truly gifted.

Ok folks, for what it's worth, a temporary build (long live the Scorpion, R.I.P the Reflex). Will go more white at some point, ie tyres, skyways but just needed to build it up for the time being. Forgive the tenuous link to the ghetto blaster.

NICE BIKE,WHY WOULD YOU NEED 2XBREAKS ON THE BACK? IM A SMIDGE CONFUSED!!
if you've ever tried to lift one these bikes up, the more you have to stop it the better ;D
think it was just to be new/different approach to bike tech, and probably used as a main selling point among a sea of BMXs in the 80s
an early version of BOGOF (buy one get one free) lol
-
NICE BIKE,WHY WOULD YOU NEED 2XBREAKS ON THE BACK? IM A SMIDGE CONFUSED!!
Like anything, some some very gimmicky stuff appeared in the 80s,some good some bad, some worked, some were pointless! The fact that no one else employed this 3 brake setup would indicate to me it was rather pointless!!! :daumenhoch:
-
biggest fall back for the rear brake was the lower mounted one was in the way of your foot when pedalling !!doh
-
:LolLolLolLol: I'll be fitting the lower rear brake to mine , my foot won't catch i've no intention of riding the fooker :LolLolLolLol:
Thinking of using it as a paper weight :2funny:
