Right I am looking to build a new mid-school bike, however I need some advice from you mid-school gurus.
What tyres were used on a 95/96 race bike? What are the options?
-
amber wall comp 3s
maybe powerlite retro tread but they may have been a coule of years later
-
Wow, were Comp III's still the tyre to have in 95/96? The Comp III is such a cool timeless tyre.
-
i'm putting a set on my newschool racebike now
-
yep skinwall comps still alive and kicking
primo dirt monsters could cope with a thrashing also.
-
as above primo dirt monters or gt logo tyres :daumenhoch:
-
good spot kev gt did some fatter 2.1 skinwalls
-
primo dirt monsters were a little later than 95/96 only a year or two, depends how era correct you want to be

I want to be as spot on era correct as I can.

go with the comp 3s. amberwall!
not many used the gt because of the smooth rib in the middle lost traction
the dirtmonsters came out after 96

Without question in my book the amberwall dirt tyre to have in the 90's was the GT Megabite. Ritchey did the Ritchey Megabite mtb tyre based on the same pattern, whcih then became the Ritchey Z Max.
Cant go wrong with comp 3's though!
-
the richeys had narrower n more tread pattern than the gt's (compared them the other day)
primo v-traks are nice too :daumenhoch:
-
Primo V-Trak. That was my favorite rear, with a 2.0 Megabite backwards on the front.
