who has done it? how long till this is done en mass, the reason i ask is ive just seen this on the profile site, its more for mtb jump frames with horizontal dropouts like my azonic ds1 evo but im sure someone will use it on a bmx soon
http://www.profileracing.com/estore2/index.php5?productid=246
and id be tempted to buy it and have some mounts welded on my frame but as i ride left to right the disc would get damaged on grinds etc... unless they made a lhd model then i could run lhd drive cranks which would put the cranks on my grinding side and the disc on the right, away from being damaged
-
It would slice your leg up a treat when you fall - probably not best for BMX...
I'm waiting for someone to get the disc inbetween the spokes on the hub centre. They have built a hydrolic gyro now, so it can't be long can it?
-
didnt think of that obvioulsy on a mtb the rear stays are quite large so protect ur leg from the disc
i thought about a disc between the spokes on the hub centre but obviously you couldnt have a hydralic cable to it so it would have to operate via a remote which then made me think why dont cars have this instead of brake lines?
-
a bloke at rom had one a few years back swears by it
spesh as he got to ride in the rain as our brakes didnt work
-
Stidds has done it already on a cruiser. Looked quite good.
-
As Zippy mentions I have had a rear disc on my Fetish cruiser for about 2 years.

nice bike

:) Diamondback did it on a racebike about 5/6 years ago just as a prototype.Atomlab did a cable operated disc for BMX as well, fitted onto a flip flop hub.Sure somebody will try again and claim it`s a new idea....I think it`s something we can live without in BMX,it`d be change just for the sake of it.Toys R Us sell "BMX" bikes with disc brakes if you really want one :LolLolLolLol:
-
I know this ain't much help but anyway - Apollo why did they do a front disc brake :idiot2: i can see why the back sounds good (although at street /park would soon get bent out of shape) why was there a need to put pin point sharp braking on the front - was it just to wake the up kids in buying Apollo in the first place :2funny:
-
:) Stodgy, you should patent the idea of a mid hub mounted disc brake!
-
I ran a hope rear disc on a 24" jump bike i only had the bike a few days and went for a tyre tap the disc crumpled and the caliper pulled the bolts from the frame.
The frame, disc and caliper were goosed. I like disc brakes but only good when braking in the forward motion.
-
I think there is a place for disc brakes in bmx but theres no need for the disc to be as big as MTB disc's.
-
how would a mid hubbed disc work
-
Think it would be a cable pull principle similar to a Sturmey Archer 3 speed hub?
-
oh i see now lol but would be a pig to change tho lol
-
forget disc brakes :LolLolLolLol:
i want a coaster brake you can turn on/off! so i can ride brakeless at the skatepark, but turn it on when riding home down hill!

That looks really cool 8).Did it have disc mounts on it or did you have to make some up?Is it a MTB hub? Sorry for all the questions but it's something I've been wanting to try for a while.

I think 'SPIN' made an ultra futuristic carbon fibre BMX back in the 90's it had big disc brakes.
-
turns out it was mountain cycle.....

Anyone remember the drum brakes that a couple of riders used to run bitd, think they worked well but weighed a ton?
-
That Mountain Cycle looks a bit Specialized to me.....truly awful!

realy love the wheels on that :smitten:
-
I think one of my 1994 issues of BMX Plus had a bike test for a BMX with disc brakes and maybe a feature on them!!

You mean an ACS freecoaster, when did freecoasters stop being able to do that?
-
ACS Freecoasters dont work with New Skyway Coaster Tuffs!! :(
You'd have to get an older Alloy hubbed coaster tuff!! :daumenhoch:
