Creamy's gonna get a slap tonight!!! :knuppel2:

:LolLolLolLol: not sure who got it but it was cheap as they are very very nice stems :daumenhoch:
-
Any Amtrac info in that Brochure Moley?
-
I still dont know what an Amtrac is?
Do you know what year they came out and whats the difference between an Amtrac and a Pro XL?
I have a few 90's BMX Plus's that I can skim through for details!! :daumenhoch:
-
Am I right in saying that the Amtrac was the Chrles Townsend signature model?
Moley I wouldn't bother building it to spec if your racing it, your better off being flexible and using parts that work for you. :daumenhoch:
I do love a Robinson though I've had an SST, a Pro and 4 Pro XL's, oh and an Amtrac. :LolLolLolLol:
The Pro XL is the best old school race bike I've ever ridden.

Whats the difference in geometry between the Pro XL and an Amtrac?
Is it just a longer Front end?
And what does Amtrac mean?
Or is it just Chaz's nickname?
-
Nice!! the cranks for that (NOS and boxed) were for sale at MK and didn't go, can't remember who it was but they were for sale on here after aswell ;)
-
looks like they have the bikes the wrong way on poster ,,the bottom bike is the team

Not sure there was any difference. I think The Amtrac model was just a Pro XL which was renamed so Charles Townsend could have a signature frame (he was Robinson's No.1 Pro at the time).
Amtrac was indeed Charle's nickname (named after the US train company Amtrak - his previous nickname was "choo choo" as in choo choo train).
-
Thanks Mike!! :daumenhoch:
MADD DAWG has the GT Stem!!
Thats why the motherhubbard wanted to see some pics, so he could gloat!!! :knuppel2:

I Love A Good Robbo :smitten:
-
I'm pretty sure the Amtrac is not the same as a Pro XL.
Ask Sandro, he had a NOS one ;)
-
The Amtrac was longer on the top tube than the Pro XL. I think it has a 21.5" TT compared to the 20.5" for the Pro XL.
I would imagine that the chainstay length would be a tad longer as well.
When I had both of them I compared the length of the wheelbase and it was definetely longer.
-
A bloke came up to me at work and said he has a complete Robbo team model in his shed complete and all original apparently. ;)

Other than length, they're the same though aren't they?

Gotta say Charlie Townsend was possibly one of if not THE biggest pricks i ever met, not literally you understand, the arrogance was unbelievable :Aresehole:

Not really the finishing on the rear dropouts is done properly on the Amtrac with end caps welded onto the ends of the frame.
The Earlier XL's don't have the tubes finished off nicely or have the frame tubes touching at their ends. Although later model XL's did have the tubes touching. I think these were 93 models, although they may have been manufactured in lmid to late 92.
-
Well mines a 92 (or at least he said it was) and the serial says 92 (if that 92 means it was manufactured in 92).
The rear tubes are touching!! :daumenhoch:
-
Mines an early 92 and the tubes don't touch so that would seem to reinforce the idea that the 93 models had their tubes touching. :daumenhoch:
-
So does the 92 in my serial number mean its a 92 model? ???
-
It does.
The 0992 means it was made in September 1992.
So it's it's Birthday this month. :4_17_5:

Who's gonna be the first to build a Charles Townsend replica Amtrac with these wheels on it? Charles was one of the first riders to run Spin carbon mag wheels when he was on Robinson.

-
I've never seen a set of spins for sale so they must be as rare as. ;D
-
i think most of them snapped in the 90's :'(
-
:LolLolLolLol:
I thought that may be the case, a few friends had them on they're mountain bikes and they all snapped them. :LolLolLolLol:
I would have thought the smaller wheels would have been stronger though.
-
I think there are some 26" ones on Ebay.com
