just wondering if there's any parts than span old, mid and new school?
I was thinking about Tech 77 levers, when did they first appear? Did the first ones all have locking buttons which
the current ones don't? Do they truely span all three eras?
Shimano DX pedals too, but the new ones are nothing like the originals, so that's just a name.
Obvioulsy tuff II's though they aren't really used on proper new school bikes, not sure they were on that
many mids either.

Comp 3s
Profile cranks
Redline Flight cranks

Good question. There aint many 80s parts/design-of-parts that have always been used, and are used on NS bikes today.
-Tech 77s
-Comp IIIs
-Profile cranks
-Gyros (although they have got bigger cos of 1 1/8th headsets)
-Seatclamps (Clutching at straws now. Again, they are bigger dia, and they are built in on many new frames)
-Grips? They are still rubber and the same size?
I dont think there is anything else that falls into that group, and its only really the first 3 on the list.
-
Oh mike you beat me to it with the profiles and the compIIIs.
Im not with you on the flights tho. Does anyone use them now?
Even if they do, they aint the same as the 80s ones, right?
-
I'd count Gyro's, bet Brian Scura does, at a $1 a pop

-
yeah Koolstops. forgot those.
I'm stunned to hear AD990's were around in 87.
wicked.
-
I'm still running two today on a new school.
-
that's what got me thinking, i have a tech 77 on my newschool and the modern DXs.

They're still based on the same design and they've been produced in all eras, so I think they span old/mid/new. I had mid-90s Flights on my Holmes and both Standards I had. Personally, I'd still rather have Flights than Profiles (but I'd rather have Shimano DXR than either). They might not be as strong/well made, but I'm not heavy on parts, so good enough for me.

Araya Aero Rims? Had a revival with the northern John front wheel from Alans (or was it a ploy to get rid of his surplus rims ;D)
-
Landing gear forks ???
-
araya super 7x rims? when did they come out?
-
cassette hubs. shimano had them out from the 80's
-
Uni Seats are making a come back

-
Just check some AD990's i got from shiners and they are date stamped 87 :daumenhoch:

Does it include f&fs
if so
pk, quad, floval, load of kuwies now, do they still do the master? they were eh, modfying (for not a better word) that one for ages.
Redline forks is possibly the oldest one?
suntour coaster brakes, ulitlized the same 70s body, and guts through a few reincarnations in the form of coasters and static freecoasters.
