right,
years ago i had this standard sta that i adored, i mean i loved that fooker!
beautifully made from ox-platinum air hardened cromo and sporting a "21 top-tube,
bought new from "thebikeshop" derby it cost me an arm and a leg,
it came in navy blue but the paint came of under my nail so rick moliterno standard sent me a shedload of bits as compo, i had the frame powdered in clear and it was :"the dogs bollocks"
when the micro-drive dropped i couldnt run it as the chain stay brake lugs were way too high,
bob marsh at maltby welded me some V-brake lugs on the chain stays and all was good,
(http://www.radbmx.co.uk/archive/albums/g171/jarvicseven/actualcopies002.jpg)
i only sold him on to fund the stupid "lightweight" fad,
as soon as i drove away from dropping it i felt rotten,
like i'd shit on an old friend,
regretted it ever since
well roger me with a kipper!!!
who should show his dirty face on e-bay?
STAN!!!!
me old mate!!
the dirty dog himself!!!

ben, when george first saw that profile micro-drive on my bike he was so pissed, after all the fooking about he did with my previous wheel i cant really blame him :-[
cheers again all :daumenhoch:
-
happy days joe look forward to seeing it revamped
-
Joe i love you (in a 72% hetero way) and you have created bikes so beautiful they have made me weep (down there) but please don't put a micro drive back on Stan!! It doesn't look right on an STA. He needs at least a 39.
There i said it.
-
Dont kill me in this thread but....
I never really liked the look of the STA, the BB looked high (Even worse on the ones with the chainstay was below the axle), and the seat clamp area looked high too.
The micro drive really doesnt help that, it makes it look even worse.

i know what you mean alex,
but seriously dude,
in a fight between moeller and moliterno who would win?
laz, i love you too you horny fooker ;)
36/13 :daumenhoch:

but seriously dude,

Did you know Moeller was a wrestling champ at high school. He got the name Mad Dog cos when he was pinned to the mat his teeth would show and he'd growl and dribble. Really, Im not even joking!
Moliterno is a big guy tho. I bet he is tuff too. All those years of riding heavy early 90s standards!
-
i had a sta for a bit i couldn't get on with it either, too stiff after riding a challenger and too heavy, look cool tho with right bits, my green then black powder lengthy was my favourite standard, i'll have to dig the pics out
-
sorry to dig this up but..... :LolLolLolLol:
i got the old lad back from the powder coaters this am :smitten:
of course it goes without saying that they got the colour wrong as usual,
does this look the same fooking grey as the last holmes i did? :LolLolLolLol:
ahh well, i've only got him for posterity,
hitting del up for the proper dt stickers soon,
i put the toolbox in the pic as the standard sta seat tube sticker on it is originally from this frame when it was new,

what goes around comes around......

welcome back stan
-
this is a great story. :daumenhoch:
and the pics illustrate what Philbert taught us (those that didn't already know) about the ox-platinum frame and how it made the front lighter so it balances on it's rear end .
looks awesome in white, but how ground breaking was it to have it raw years ago?
:4_17_5:
-
wouldn't say ground breaking joe, more fashion to have it raw!
i'm gutted though, i was just about to fo my bullitt in that very same paint scheme, and same stickers!
-
good one joe.
Who do you use for powdercoat?
I've used express coatings in the past and they have a huge range of colours.
They used to be hidden among a warren of streets down spitalfields but now they've demolished everything for the new ring road it's a piece of piss to find.
-
cool story young Joe
now get him built back up to his former glory :daumenhoch:
:) DINGO :)
-
Got the colour wrong? it's white ffs.
Get it built. :P
-
Very nice mr DSD :daumenhoch:
-
No problems with that at all. looks stunning in that colour combo...
Mark.
