Looking through an old BMX Action Bike today and came across some pics of Glynn Lewis.
He always seemed to be fearless and always used to get massive air in the bowls.
He was riding a DP Freestyler with Pro-class wheels!!
Whatever happened to him?
-
erm.. this has been a talking point before. Seems like he has plenty time on his hands now at her majesty's pleasure. No-one seems to want to talk about why he's there tho. ;)
-
Well, if the reason as to why he is at her maj's pleasure is true, then i think he is better left forgotten.
-
Yeah . . . I'm not sure if he's still serving time . . . though that is just a rumour and unconfirmed anyway !!!
I used to see Glyn regularly at my local skatepark BITD and had the pleasure of his company riding the pipe at Ammaco HQ (Maidstone) back in about 1983
A total waste of a fooking great freestyler in my opinion :-\
-
I know a lady that stuck her old man with her stelletto heal and killed him :-\ she got her majesty,s pleasure which is to serve time till the queen says you can leave! is it the same meaning here then? or is it his in the clink?

Glynn was one of the older lads who would tear up the Black Lion Skatepark when I was just a pup. He was head and shoulders above everyone else there - apart from a lad I also remember who we used to call Lumo. He jumped over the fence from the main bowl - or Resie - as we would call it. But that's another story.
Anyway, Glynn - who worked at Geoff Wyles Cycles - was getting big air back at a time when he had no real right to. I also once saw him jump out of the blue bowl - which was vertical and had thick coping - and 360. He was a bit arrogant back then but that was no real surprise. The rest of us could just about manage a cross up. Jeeze, the older lads would let us ride their bikes for a go on theirs - and then nick our dust caps. Happy dayz!
By the sounds of you guys in the know, he's riding solo at HMP right now. I'd be intrigued to know what he did and I guess it's pretty bad seeing's no one is prepared to post. I'm sure Glynn was not as good as we all thought he was. People reading this were probably just as good BITD but for this part of Kent, he was easily the top man. You guys will know more but I can remember him laying it flat a good six feet out of the top of the aforementioned Blue Bowl. Us pups were impressed that's for sure! Cheers, JB

To be fair to Glyn, and i hope they are just rumours, maybe someone perhaps should do some proper homework and find out whats really happened to Glyn......It would be a shame if the rumours are true. I think we should leave it there.
-
I must be local to you then Brownie . . . that's if you still live near the Black Lion complex :)
I was always over Gillingham Skate Park at weekends and like you say, Glynn certainly new how to ride there and always great to watch
I was away from the BMX scene for a few years and couldn't believe it when I discovered the site had been filled to make way for a leisure centre . . :( . . . any idea what year this happened ?

I was Glyn Lewis' teammate on Ammaco...... He was rad as fook; no-one rode that bowl at Gillingham like him. I saw him riding at Leigh-on-Sea skatepark back in about '94-95ish but didn't immediately recognise him..... he never was the prettiest picture.... ;D
He then turned up at Rom in the late 90's, on a DP. I took him aside to ask him about rumours I had heard, he went on to tell me he had been in prison more than once, and had indeed lead a violent life. He denied to me that his convictions were for anything other than violence, something I would very much like to believe, as I'm sure most of you would too.
Anyways, we had a good session at Rom that day and he promised he would come riding a little more, but sadly I've not seen him since.
I haven't heard anything more from him/about him since then.

Prolly, can I have my dice dustcaps back please if it's you who nicked them! lol
I live on Sheppey at the time and me and my mates would travel up by train getting in all sorts of bother before arriving at the Black Lion before 9am each Saturday. Great park. I couldn't believe it when they filled it in either. Really short-sighted of the local council. Shoot the lot of 'em! :2gunsfiring_v1:

I suppose that could make things a little awkward

Does "Anon" as the authors name on the front cover of "How to make friends and influence people" stand for Glyn Lewis???
-
whatever you say about glynn lewis you cant take away the fact that he was insane on a Q pipe . Dont know what he has done just heard the same old stories as everybody else. He was never a close friend of mine bitd but I thought he was a nice lad and awsome at airs. I remember Fiola :tickedoff: (acting hard) asked Glynn to step outside for a fight :knuppel2: and Glynn turned down the offer :yahoo_silent: as killing Eddie could be bad for your career , lucky for Fiola I think .
If the stories are not true then I would love to see Glynn ride ramps again .

fiola must have been very brave or very silly.
all i would have had to seen was glyn teeth for me to start running :uglystupid2:.
-
glyn held the world indoor quarterpipe height record for a while!
-
Isnt Fiola about 5'4 ?
Glyn couldve murdered him just by farting on him ! ;D

The pool in Gillingham was insane to ride! Really bloody horrible, but Glyn did rule it. He used to get some real homophobic stick, and their where alusions to other un-savoury things, but they mainly came from Eric (Crazy Eric - Really sound fella), who just loved to take the piss out of him. I always felt that Glyn was a bit tragic, and I don't mean this in a patronising way. He just seemed to never fit in, wherever he was. People always took the piss out of him, and I say sadly that I was no different. No arguing however that he was a hard bastard.
