any queries regarding the event please ask and the team involved will do their best to answer your questions
Just to clarify the main event is not 'No Clips' as advertised on some websites ... only the payback open class

Is there plates and trophies for old school?
Wonder how many sandbaggers that'll attract if there is. :LolLolLolLol:
-
Zippy - Yes there will be an old school class with a plate and trophies ... as for sandbaggers - well thats for you lot to sort out, our resident old school expert wont be there sadly to keep an eye on you !!!
-
I'm doing both just like at the britssssss you sandbagger zippster ;D why don't you race 30-39 as well as old skool?
-
:LolLolLolLol:
This will be my last old school race so i'm aiming for a win but there's some fast additions to the old school ranks that will be hard to beat. :LolLolLolLol:
-
Well i think the british #1 and #2 are gonna be racing both classes as well and they were bang on it at the britssssssss :LolLolLolLol:
-

Parsons not going to be there?? :D Neither will Matt or I unfortunately as I'm taking him down to Exeter Uni to take up his residency there. Humps
-
Really looking forward to this one, but now getting worried, cos i havent ridden more than the first two straights with out getting out of puff. Why didn't i put more effort in on the couple of nights i've been there! Stamina didn't do too well at Daggers on Sunday either.
Think this one'll be a laugh. Put it down as experience. :crazy2:
-
I'll just be doing cruiser as I've already told Scott Waterhouse he can borrow my old school bike for the Southern Champs.
-
Probably not racing this one, as broken collar bone at the moment, from at tussle with a 4X4 cycling into work on my road bike on Thursday. Pain as really wanted to race Herne Bay again. Will probably be along to catch up with everyone anyway though.
-
Fook me Matt you`ve certainly been through the wringer over the last couple of months, mind you it makes a change from Darren taking you out :LolLolLolLol:
-
Darren Who ?

What that old has been :D i could take waterhouse on any day :LolLolLolLol:

Darren Who ?
You know darren......he's that big lump of a bloke :LolLolLolLol:

Sorry to hear about the collarbone Matt. Get well soon (lazer man could get you sorted by the end of the month, but it's a bit of a trek from where you are to Ipswich unless there's one local).
-
Gutted for you again Matt at least it wasnt your chain coming off
again that has caused you another injury, ref the accident any
chance of a claim was it his/her fault???
-
Unfortunatly, although the driver "caused" the incidnet, its my "fault". I try and ride with the flow of the traffic when on the road and was tracking the 4X4 into a round about approx 4 meters behind. Looked right to check traffic, nothing coming AT ALL, dont apply brakes, turn to front, 4X4 brake lights on and stopping rappidly despite no cars. Managed to loose a lot of speed, and get to the left of it so just took the impact with right shoulder and hand. Bike is fine also..... :) I would have managed to stop if on my mountain bike, but road bike brakes come no where near Hope discs.
You never know may even end up riding at HB depending on what progress R Surrey Hospital tell me I am making nearer the time. May just leave it though, and get mended to train hard through the winter with Keith at his place, (gonna join us Kev)?..... This season ended quite difficultly for me and was not fully fit for the brits, but always next year. Dont intend to let a few broken bones stop me......
-
Matt, if the collarbone is broken rather than just fractured, don't risk riding at HB as it won't have healed properly. When I did mine it was the most painful and annoying injury I'd had and it took about 6/7 weeks before my arm came out of the sling and it was still painful for another 3/4 weeks.
On the other hand, Terry Green broke his a few years ago, had the lazer treatment within a week and was racing again 2 weeks after breaking it.
Do you get a private medical plan through work? If so, check your policy as they may cover the cost of the lazer treatment.
-
Yes it is a break, but surprised how little it hurts. Mind you after smashing my face up, breaking my jaw and knowcking out 8 teeth on Jaw bone in 2000, most things dont hurt that much. :)
Had not thought of the medical insurance thing as yes I do get Medical, so ill take a look at the Policy and see what is says.
Cheers.

Now you mention that Matt, how'd you do it? Always thought it rude to ask but seeing as you brought it up............

A very good friend of mine has lent me a 'tricked out' Crupi cruiser to use until i get 'dialled in' next year so i wont be on the old banger any more with slipping cassette!!!! Yayyyy!!!! :smitten: ;D ;D

Bollocks, that means you`ll be even harder to beat, but I`m going to try anyway :LolLolLolLol:
-
Bring it on Billy 'big air'. :knuppel2:
-
I've already told Scott Waterhouse he can borrow my old school bike for the Southern Champs.
:LolLolLolLol:
Almost got that one in unnoticed Mike!! That would be sandbagging with a capital "S"!! I'll let Russ borrow my Redline if it looks like being rather tame in OS and if it means Zippy gets beaten >:D There's going to be an interesting line-up in OS with Mr.Magoo and Rod Craig getting some gates in recently, but can they hack a whole lap at race speed?? Shame I shalln't be there to see it all go down but I know there'll be loads of pics to look at when I get home. Anyone like to guess the number of entries for this one?? Expecting loads of out-of-Region riders so I'm pitching in at 305. Any advance on that?? Humps
-
right on Humps, aint gonna be right with out you there mate :'(, gonna be good, i know i've practised gates, but yes i know i'm gonna buy all the Relentless i've got in stock that week-end, cos, foolishly, i haven't tried a full lap, not even at a cruising pace, so completely relying on adrenaline to do the job :crazy2: (mental note, make sure i give myself monday 29th off work, maybe tuesday too!)
-
Would be fantastic to get a full gate of all the original region 11 bar bangers banging bars again :LolLolLolLol:
We need chris and martin peel to race old skool and glendower, darren boughton, phil etc and have a proper 80's south region revival :daumenhoch:
-
Yeah that'd be cool....

matt i cant belive your luck this year with injuries. really hope you get well quickly and back to fitness. :'(
-
This is my last 'planned' old school race so I'm just looking to go out with as best a result as possible.
It's looking like it's going to be a great race though with Rod, Neil and Paul all in the mix along with the rest of the old school regulars.
Be great to see the Peels racing as well. Chris would be a great addition this year and it would be great to see Martin actually rcing rather than prancing round in his MRD top looking like he does. :LolLolLolLol:
-
My smashed fingers have at last started moving again - so as long as i can strap up the middle one (no gags please :LolLolLolLol:) and get a pair of gloves on im in....
was getting very worried at the weekend - but everything seems to be healing nicely now....
Think OS Final should be two laps gut buster - sort the men out.... :LolLolLolLol:
-
one laps enough of a gut buster, but could go for two if you really want to....
Si, if you strappin up the fingers, does that mean you're gonna race in wooly mittens? :LolLolLolLol:
-
The track was riding very well tonight.
Got loads of gate practice in and have started manualing the triple on the front straight, althugh doubt I'd really want to do it at racing speed. :LolLolLolLol:

You`ll need to be jumping those Simon ::)

like your first race back at hersden then??? you still got those yellow bad boys the fingers were baggy enough.... the only time ive ever seen anyone have to stop and put his glove back on in a race!!! classic.

I can ride them almost as quick as I could if I jumped them so there's no need to risk anything in my last OS race. Besides I can't win the race in the first straight, only lose it. :LolLolLolLol:
-
Yes them's my gardening gloves for weeding.....i thought they'd look good almost like Ame wet weathers :LolLolLolLol: You can have a lend of 'em if ya want?
Zippy, riding will never be as quick as jumping, something to do with terminal velocity and everything falls at 120MPH, thus giving a decent thrust on the downside......let me know once you've got it mastered and i'll have a go afetr you :LolLolLolLol:

Hope you are better Matt. I know how you feel, I may not be able to make it either. Since the Brits I crashed about 50 times, mainly into pubs. I try to put on the brakes but it’s always too late know matter how severe my swerving is. Just the other day I fractured my stomach in a nasty coming together with some Kronenburg, it isn’t half swollen. Luckily my pipe smoking is unaffected and it has not hindered my strict kebab training programme. Hopefully I will see the rest of you on the on the gate….I may need two lanes.
-
Matt, is Nick Pullen coming back for the South Champs? Be great to see him on the gate and bolstering the numbers. I think around 28 people in total competed in at least 1 round of the series this year. Would be rad if we can get as many of them as possible. Hopefully we'll be guaranteed semi-finals. What a difference from 40+ last season when there were 5 or 6 people in the class.
-
Dont think Nik will be racing until later in the year. He has been concentrating on MTB XC enduro events throught the summer, doing sleepless 24hr Solo, (top 20 finish), anoother 12 hour event that gorrick put on, (solo coming 6th), amongst others. I keep asking him to come to races, and he says he will make one soon. Ill be there to cheer you all on next week anyway...
-
Pity you can't race Matt, but the upside for us lesser riders is there's a vacancy in the a-final ;)
-
Great mini-site on here http://www.eastkentbmx.co.uk/southchamps2008.html should help decide that this is THE meeting to be at this weekend. Humps
-
Can't wait.
Any old schoolers/cruiser riders doing 2 classes?
-
I think Jason Harvey and Spillers are going to, and I might as well :daumenhoch:
-
I fancy doing 2 classes but don't wanna do ride my old school bike.
Might do 30-39 cruiser and 40+ cruiser if I'm allowed :uglystupid2:
-
Can i ride 25+ ladies and 40+ cruiser? :2funny:
-
You could Keith, but Rene might not be happy about it ;)
-

You dont want to be in with Nik, her cornering is mental :idiot2: taking your life in your hands :2funny:

Big props to the people who helped prep the track today. Hard and fast as fcuk so tomorrow's meeting should be a cracker. It was warm, sunny and a light breeze today so hopefully more of the same tomorrow. Joey Gough and Steve Williams turned up to have a look at the track so that's two out-of-regioners racing tomorrow. Good luck to everyone racing tomorrow and I look forward to reading the reports tomorrow evening when I get back from Exeter. Humps
-
Have a good journey Humps, you'll be missed tomorrow, and best of luck to Matt with settling in.
