i bought myself a black spoked wheel for my quadangle 2008 but i didnt realise that the axle on my new wheels are 14mm would anyone know the size of axle that would fit on the quadangle and is it possible to swap the 14mm axle from my hub to a smaller size

retro quadangles are 10mm and the street/park Se Quadangles are 14mm axles
-
i guess that my quadangle tanned looptail would be a 10mm then the 14mm is too big to fit in. is it possible to swap axles over for a 10mm or?

not sure on the conversion never had 14mm axled wheels
where did you get the wheels from ?
-
got the wheels of t'ebay. i know its 14mm axel se formula hubs so was wondering if anyone got the same and if its possible to swap axles if not what a waste of a wheel for me :-[
-
was it a pair you brought ?
i suppose the only option is to re-hub the wheels if it cant be done
-
yeah bought a pair oh god re hubbing an all i give up lol this totally sucks! i will try and see if changing an axle will work but most likely not :tickedoff:
-
Think all the internal dims of the hub are designed for a 14mm axle. You could file the axles down to 10mm but be real careful...
-
i wouldnt wanna risk filing down the axle id rather shoot myself
-
don't go shooting yourself.......my advice would be to bang em back up on egay, sell em for what you paid for em then buy some other ones with 10mm axels?
by the way what did you pay for em?
-
thing is i really like this wheel just totally gutted it wont fit on my quadangle it got all i wanted black rims, black spokes, SE hubs but its worthless now lol i got it for 35 bargain for me always find a bargain

gotta be worth taking the your local decent bike shop and having a chat
they may well have a axle that will swap over

this is a good call........they will probably charge for the wheel build but it won't be much......have to admit though that if it were me? i'd just file a bit off of each side to make em fit........are you only cruising on the Quad or going to race?
-
Would slightly larger bearings hold the 10mm axle in place? Or is there in existence a set of cones & nuts that are the same outer diameter as they'd be for a 14mm wheel, but with a 10mm hole in the middle? Adaptor cones?
-
try a 10mm axle and cones with bb ball bearings if you have these bits lying around maybe worth a try?

was gonna build a daily rider to bash about in generally lol i would love to race but i live in belfast and all those races are held across the sea so too much faff for me.
i just looked at the hub i think you would need a 10mm axle the same diameter to fit in so it wont wobble about

Here is the picture, is that silver thing which suports the bearing what you guys call a cone!?
i was wondering if i could get a 10mm axle with the cone thingy to fit the 10mm onto the hub will it work?
-
Have a look at this page for servicing hubs...

-
why not just machine them flat just like on the peregrine phat jack hubs 10mm/14mm axles.
i also bought some of these wheels for my mongoose but i took a grinder to the dropouts. >:D
-
as i said try bigger ball bearings before you start grinding things
-
I went down to my mates, tried changing axles i put in a complete 10mm set with cone, dust cap etc it fits brilliantly so i will need to find where i can find a fresh set of 10mm axle kit with bolt nuts etc
-
Try here?

-
Give `em a bell, sure they`ll be able to set you up with all you need.Never had any problems with them & they know their stuff..

These have quite a bit of axle/hub spares too & are usually good price-wise.
-
Nice one ill give them a shout about it. iv seen 10mm coverter to a 14mm just wish it was vice versa
-
Try www.billys.co.uk heaps of axles on there :daumenhoch:

go and buy a flat file, with a serreted edge, from the pound shop
and take 2mm of each side
how you do it is thus
-file one side down to the required amount
then bolt it in the rear forks, so the wheel is sitting outside the frame - wheel nut inside the frame
-then you can get the same positioning as the side you first filed, as you have the stay to go by
-you will just need to buy a file from the pound shop, that is the same or slightly greater in thickness than your forks
however in the front, you will need to open the landing gears to 14mm, if you aint got 14mm ones
:LolLolLolLol:
that will entail both a 14mm bit, and filing still, as you want a slot, for safety
-
LOL are you telling me that the landing gear forks needs a 14mm axle if yes perfect one done and just need to sort out the rear axle
-
LOL are you telling me that the landing gear forks needs a 14mm axle if yes perfect one done and just need to sort out the rear axle
Nope, if it is an old school 1" set of Landing Gear Forks then a 3/8 or 10mm axle is required, same for the frame. What you can do is file the 14mm axle down to fit :daumenhoch:
-
CRAP MAN!! :-\ id rather give the axle to someone who could be able to do the job for me i would fook it up big time
-
It's not hard to do, I've managed it twice so far and I'm a total bodger.
You're not taking metal off where it's needed for grinds, there's almost no up/down strength lost. Plus the axle can't spin in the fork's dropout so things don't work loose. Ever been turning the left-side nut for ages before realising the right-side one's going round too? Won't happen anymore.
