Can i get a rough figure on a Supergoose frame in good condition?
-
It depends which model Supergoose it is ... do you have any pics :)
-
Its a 79 frame, no forks. I cant get pics until i get down me old chaps to fish it out of the loft. I know its in good shape, minimal wear to the dropouts & stripped back to bare metal.

A Supergoose 1 then ... have you stripped the original nickel plate or was it painted at some point :)
I'm very interested if you're selling it ... I've been looking for some time now to build a rep of my very 1st BMX :smitten:

It had been re-painted but then stripped off again so im unsure if the nickel plate has gone. It was my brothers bike but he has said im welcome to get it if i dig it out of the loft which is a hell of a job as there is years worth of stuff up there! It will be going up for sale when i get it out, hence why im looking on a figure of what its worth. How do i decode the identity number?

Give me a shout when you've some idea of price ... I'm genuinely interested ;)
Have a look at this useful site for old school Mongoose serial interpretation ... !!! CLICKETY CLICK !!! (http://www.vintagemongoose.com/frame/serials.php) :daumenhoch:
-
Well i have no idea on price what so ever, called my brother, he said its still got nickel plate & is T stamped. Tried to sound casual on the phone, i dont want him going back on his word ;D
-
£150 ish. i've had my eye on supers' for ages and had about 20 ebay auctions in there own little file in my favorites earlier on this year. Generally they were between £80 and £200 depending on the condition. NOS or mint though might go a fair bit higher but it sounds like your one is neither.
-
Well that gives me a rough idea. Yeah its definatley not nos or mint just a good condition stripped back frame ready for a good resto. If i had known about it i would have built that up instead of the reflex that ive nearly finished building. It wasnt until my brother said "ive still got my goose in dad's loft" when i though bugger! :idiot2:
I may strip the reflex & sell that yet & rebuild the goose but i really wanted to finish what i had started. I'll know more once i actually go fetch it so watch this space for pic's :daumenhoch:
-
I'm defo not interested if it's gonna cost me £150.00 ... not without the forks anyway :-\
-
I'll put some pics up then you can pm me with an offer if you are still interested :daumenhoch: Like i said, i really have no idea of what any bikes are, this is all new to me at the minute. My brother was the one who was in to it big, i had a second hand burner as a kid :-[
-
Aye most of the ones i was looking at had forks :daumenhoch:
-
Yep I'd go along with all that - watched 2 end on ebay recently one over here and on in the states both around 150 quid and both had forks included.
-
Its all gone tits up now, all this talk of old school bmx's has got my brother back interested now!! He is gonna keep it for himself now & rebuild it >:(
I was getting my hopes up & even started to source a few bits!
Anyone got a supergoose or motomag they want to sell :-[
-
Anyone got a supergoose or motomag they want to sell
I'd rather sell all my clothes.
-
sounds cheap for the team frameset. more of a motomag price. was this US?
-
One in the UK and one in the US - both around the 150 mark but both needed full strip down and re chrome in my opinion ;)
The US one might have been saveable I suppose.......
-
or nickel even :LolLolLolLol: i think they got chromed when they got different dropouts. Wouldn't part with mine for that measley sum. got an original coplete one(in bits :-[ ) i'm thinking of flogging, but i'd want a fair price for the complete kit.
-
Ah yes the old chrome / nickel on a supergoose 1 discussion hmmm - had a chat with kev (kdw712) about this not so long ago - if you look in the pdf catalogs from vintagemongoose.com the 1979-80 has the supergoose indeed listed as a nickel finish, however the 1981 catalog - still showing the supergoose with the same dropouts (no holes) has it listed as chrome another mongoose variant thrown into the mix ;D
Maybe we should call the nickel one a supergoose zero :LolLolLolLol:
I can see this discussion going something like the Proclass ID thread or even the legendary UK/USA supergoose 3 thread :daumenhoch:
For those without the .pdf catalogs here are the supergoose specs from each :

-
yeah get some pics up dix - drop outs, brake bridge, rear stay and serial no. are the tell-tale ones :daumenhoch:
-
im sorry boys i havent got the frame yet but i do have a pic
(http://www.radbmx.co.uk/archive/albums/t244/dixon_024/goose.jpg)
-
HA HA - so it was you who beat me on this one on US ebay :LolLolLolLol: :LolLolLolLol:
I think you got that for a good price mate :daumenhoch:
I'd have bid a fair bit more myself if I hadn't bought so many mongoose frames lately :uglystupid2:
Already got a mint supergoose so I was just trying to steal it for a cheeky price ::)
For me mate that is a chrome supergoose 1 all the way and it probably is a 1981 like stated - sweet 8)
What colour bits are you gonna go for ? Are you gonna keep it stock mongoose parts bars / forks etc. or are you going the custom build route ?
-
I stayed up late watching this fecker! Did he quote you $45 shipping? Absolute bargain!
-
:LolLolLolLol: sorry dood i really wanted this frame
i was going skyway again but i have a few other hobbies that take my spare weg 8)
and a goose can look awsome :daumenhoch:
im going
black mag wheels
gold pegs
gold stem
black seat chrome post
chrome bars
i got the goose black pads
and im desperate for the mongoose crank on uk ebay i think its someone off here ::)
ive bought the forks aswell but i think they need re-doing so probs get the nos tange from allans
trouble is im doing a redline aswell the ££££££££ is depleteing fast doing two bikes
im a little confused on the crank buisness what bb do i need for this frame and single crank hopfuly mongoose crank ;)
ive done some serious surfing and watching the last few days ive even dreamt about ebay pages ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
great site this is i was looking at pics in that musuem for about 2 hrs i felt 13 again lmao!
-
Well just to mix things up a bit, I paid £140 including post from the U S of A for just this frame without forks or stickers, but it's a 1978 Team, and it's mint. Oh, and I wanted it >:D The forks are nickel plated era correct and cost a bloody fortune, but my brother has a set without the brake hole in them which were stock on the top of the range Team, so I'm still looking for a set :2funny:
Surely the nickel plated ones are Teams and the chrome ones Supergooses from late '79 onwards?
By the way, I'd rather sell my house than this......... I even rode it like I stole it round the track at MK this year too :daumenhoch:
Spen
Here's mine - I went custom build how you'd have had it back in the day if you had the cash :smitten: :smitten:
....and here's it's younger cousin, my brother's 1980 Team (check the forks :knuppel2:)
-
Sweet as sweet buddy :daumenhoch: I just love the welds!!!
-
Yeah, the really early ones just give the image of a load of old bits of box-section, tubes and punched plate being welded together in a barn somewhere :smitten: :smitten:
-
8)nice bike fella ;)
im glad ive gone goose :4_17_5:
-
this T stamped 1980 F&F cost me £120 in 2007 - seen here in MK08 race trim ;)
but this 81 supergoose F&F cost me £130 in 2006 & still isn't built ::)

-
Which one do you want to sell? ::)
:LolLolLolLol:

bit like tutanhkamens treasure but more mongoosey :D
-
Grave robbing it is then ;D I hope you are in your eighties
-
:2funny: :2funny: :2funny:
can any one tell me what size bottom set i need plz
and nice goose sir 8)
on my frame why do i have no holes in the rear maybe mines an 80???????? 8)
-
Yeah strange that because yours is a May 81 isnt it? might have been on the changeover???? Is it stamped on the BB?
-
Yeah you can't beat a good goose :daumenhoch:
They're the only bikes I build :smitten:
I wouldn't buy tange tx forks for that super though dix - hold out for some chrome team forks they'll suit your frame right down to the ground. They do come up fairly often - probably cheaper in the US but then you've got the shipping cost lottery so it's hard to tell. Seen ones that need replating go for around 30 quid but for nice ones your probably looking at 50 maybe more - depends who's bidding. You could always go with the tange pinched forks off the standard mongoose from the late 70's early eighties - they did come in chrome as well as nickel and not as sought after as the team ones so you could pick them up cheaper. Good luck...............
-
You need a mongoose BB dix - 28tpi ;)
-
it'll be a standard US bottom bracket
as for the year
yours is a mark one goose from the rear drops and i think i can see the flatten seat stay on the drive side
which means 76 - 81 ish so should have T stamp serial
but may have a mk2 type serial like E10003
from what you've said its 80 / 81 so right on that change point to the mk2
at the design changes points mongoose seemed to blend the designs
i guess cos they brought material in bulk ready to fabricated
so theres all sorts of odd querks
-
yeh cheers lads :)
yep bobafet i will get some proper forks 8)
-
There ya go - you do realise you have now been bitten by the goose - there is no way back :LolLolLolLol:
-
im sorry boys i havent got the frame yet but i do have a pic
(http://www.radbmx.co.uk/archive/albums/t244/dixon_024/goose.jpg)
sounds like we all were watching this one :LolLolLolLol:,i asked the chap for the complete frame number 1st and he told me it was "E111039 Thx, Jim"so by rights should be a june 81 ,which was what the advert said :-\ ,didn't say there was any other letters before the number eg"T" just these numbers :-\ ,so i didn,t bother bidding,
it does has the flattened rear chain stay so should be a super but it has'nt got the "T" unless he just didn't tell me :-\,this number is more like my 82/3 super but with the older drop outs with no holes, :-\ :-\
-
May 81 model - same as mine !
so theres likely to be all sorts of combos of serial types
dropouts and features in this era
sure Waza on vintage mongoose could pin down a more definative timeline of changes
ie serial style changed before the drop out style etc
-
:)its early 80s its a nice goose it just must be an overlap of change over
im just glad its geniune and all good 8)
its on its way :smitten: how long will it take about a week ?
-
Depends on the postage you paid for - can take between a week and four weeks unfortnately, then there's the import duty lottery to worry about.......
Tragically I was bitten by the 'goose a long time ago, but have sold quite a lot now and am down to my 1978 Team and my 1983 Supergoose 3 and Minigoose. All are US models and have been imported and lovingly restored though :smitten:
Here's what it got to at the worst of it - my brother still has plenty of old 'geese he's thinking of selling, but here they all are in their glory >:D

:4_17_5: shit the bed spen man they are some nice bikes :smitten:
i like the white one the most i think oh and the cali look one :coolsmiley: :Great_Britain:
-
Cheers guys, I enjoyed building them and riding them about at MK this year :smitten:
The white 1987 Californian was stunning, built from a totally NOS f&f imported from the States. Paul (Harorider) bought it after I put it up for BoTM earlier this year. The red skyways & running gear on the nickel Motomag sold and Matt (Bensherman) is now the lucky owner of the f&f as it's a 1979. I forget who bought the rest of them, but the bright yellow one took the longest to sell, and I had to drop it up to Glasgow when I was working there - again, a totally restored f&f. It's been tough trying to decide which ones to keep and which ones to sell, but I have kept the bikes I always wanted, ie the '78 Team and the '83 Supergoose 3. The minigoose is just going to be moth-balled until my baby daughter is old enough to ride it :2funny:
If you check my posts the candy-blue Supergoose and a few others are still available as they are my brother's. The three below I think from memory, but I'd have to check.
Keep collecting fellas and I've no doubt I'll end up with another 'goose before long as I haven't got any winter projects booked in yet >:D

A gaggle of geese there spen ! I'm starting to farm my own flock here too :LolLolLolLol:
Quick question though spen - that middle goose of your brothers (looks like a nickel finish - the one with the old red tuffs) what decals are on that mate ? I 've seen these on the odd ebay frame but i've never seen them in a catalogue or advert :-\
Any info on those ?
-
i think those decals are from early 90's
-
nice one kev - fountain of mongoose knowledge ;)
So these decals were still during the BMX products era though - right ? Since the logo is still the lower case mongoose letters rather than the slanted capitalised logos of the new era ???
-

Definitely the BMX products era :daumenhoch:
All I can tell you is that it came with them on when it was imported. I've seen a few, and it's kind of in the vein of the Blue Max really - odd one as it's not a "T"-stamped or a Motomag, so possibly a special edition one but it's the lovely yellow-glow nickel finish.. It had the remains of the fork stickers on it, but he took them off as they were propper fecked. Here's the serial number and it's an old one from 1978, although as we all know the serial numbers back then were just the age of the bottom bracket tube stamp and could be taken with a pich of salt plus or minus 3 to 6 months by the time the frames were made up!
Actually, I suppose the crimped-ended Tange forks give it away as been about this age as well. Altogether it's a tidy f&f but would benefit some tlc and elbow grease when it comes to polishing it up I suppose. Trouble with my brother is he's just like me - we love these bikes, but it's all about riding them not just looking at them >:D
(http://www.radbmx.co.uk/archive/albums/aa149/Spen69/S4010571.jpg)
I miss my flock now they've been scattered to the wind amongst you lot. This was my favourite one, but sadly it was split up during a big sale. At least I still see Matt (Bensherman) riding the 1979 frame and forks now and then with black Tuffs and running gear :'(

Spen :daumenhoch:
-
Yeah spen i know what you mean about ridin 'em - I bought my first mongoose just for show and then thought fook this i need one to ride so i bought another, then bought another cos it was a cheap resto project, then found a cheap team frame on US ebay that was advertised wrongly as a motomag (result !) and then found my elusive non looptail minigoose and then decided my rider was too nice a frame to be killing so just bought a well used supergoose 2 to ride so i can build the previous rider as a showy :LolLolLolLol:
It's like an addiction i just can't stop buying the fookers ............ >:D
