Title: Steve Biglands Rebel 24" Cruiser
Post by: dannywhiteley on October 02, 2008, 06:46 PM
Im just in the process of buying this...

I have been told it was owned by Steve Bigland, Rbel factory rider (?), but know very little about Steve himself, or any provenance for the bike itself.

Ive never seen one before and wonder if anyone has any history they could share?

Ive been thinking about a cruiser for some time now, amnd being a Rebel just about makes it perfect in my eyes.

Any info would be appreciated.

Steve Bigland #3, Superclass final at Whitehaven, factory MRD at the time, circa 1986.

He was the year above me, but in my eyes the smoothest rider I ever saw-withouy doubt. I am sure at one stahe he rode JMC's, then moved on to Rebel, and was based at Wordsley.

 cheers DT.

Thanks fpr the info.  Anybody seen a Rebel cruiser before?  There was one on ebay a while back in chrome, and then this one that came indirectly from Steve B himself.  Anybody seen heard of any others, I never saw them advertised BITD?

At the moment, ive just changed the seat post from the unbranded (and a little tatty) original to a genuine Reynolds 531 post.

Also might change the crank over for my Hanabishi 3 pc, but apparently all the parts (apart from the brakes) are original to Steve B, so it would be a shame to change it completely.

The bars and f&f have been powdered in the last couple of years, but all the other parts were refurbed and reused.

Original green label comp 3 tyres aswell.

A black Kashi Aero seat would be nice to replace the Landar Aero.

That was my thoughts when I heard the story behind it.

Its a beautiful bike to ride, never been on a cruiser before and you really benefit from those extra 4 inches. :)
