early mid school era aimed at and i have interstate 65 chen shin tyres or oddy barefoot tyres what should i use or do i need to buy summat else?

barefoot are good.

I have peregrine HP tyres on my Haro Sport 91/92

and GT logo tyres on my Dirt Bros TA replica.

Like JT said barefoots would be fine for your build Greg. A lot of people (or at least all those I rode with) still rolled Comp STs, they were available at a good price in the early 90s.
