Title: New Race Bike
Post by: Zippy on October 06, 2008, 04:48 PM
Right I was going to be riding a Haro next year but with them being delayed it's now looking like I'll be riding a Dialled Bikes MX24R framed bike instead.

Being very impatient I can't wait until they arrive as I'll need to get practicing on a cruiser long before the season starts if I want to be in good shape and up to speed.

Therefore I've built up my Intense Sabot. Here's some pics of it so far. Just waiting on the chainwheel and rim tapes before it's finished. Also not sure what seatpost and saddle to use. May have to use my SDG Air and a Carbon post but I'll see what they look like first.

Rims and headset came from Dans Comp in the states as they don't import chrome Rhino Lites into the UK anymore and they were cheap for Chris Kings as well so I thought hey ho why not.

The Shimano DXR groupset I ordered through my shop, if you want some let me know and I'll do you a cracking deal.

Loving those wheels.  Shoulda gone for the Ti Dye Marwi spokes though  ;)
Title: Re: New Race Bike
Post by: Zippy on October 06, 2008, 10:59 PM
Might upgrade to those in time for the Dialled to arrive.  ;)

Where do you get them from?
Title: Re: New Race Bike
Post by: dialledbikes on October 06, 2008, 11:54 PM
Dans Comp do em, Si.  They're about 2 dollars each.  Be careful to get the right lengths though as I think the rear wheel requires about 3 different lengths (don't ask me what or why though as I know nowt about wheel building).

I think my next wheelset will be Sun Envy rims, King hubs and Marwi Ti Dye spokes.  I think that will knock about half a pound off the weight of my current wheels (Oddysesy Vandero hubs, Marwi Ti spokes and Sun Rhyno Lite rims).

Si, does that mean the haro is back on the open market, when the 09's arrive? First dib dobs, price depending, if it is, please.
Title: Re: New Race Bike
Post by: Zippy on October 07, 2008, 03:16 PM
Yes Neil the Haro will most probably be straight in and out the door now that the 09's are coming in so late. My MX24R will be here around the same time so I'll just swap the intense and the MX24R straight over and sell the Intense frame.

Here's a pic of my seat and post. What do you guy's reckon. It's an SDG Bel Air Bengal Tiger seat with Titanium rails and a Specialized S Works carbon fibre seatpost. I've got a Black version of this seat as well so if it looks gash I'll swap it.

I've never really liked the animal skin SDG's so I'd go with the black one.  I like the Specialized carbon seat post though.  Just don't crash your bike too often!

What Mike said....  its looks shocking on that frame mate.....go with black

I've ordered a bel Air for my cruiser, by far the most comfiest saddle ive ever owned (i think this will be my 6th)
Title: Re: New Race Bike
Post by: Zippy on October 07, 2008, 04:48 PM
I'll pop the Black seat on tomorrow.  :daumenhoch:

The tiger skin is a bit marmite isn't it. Probably why I've still got it cos nobody wants to buy them.  :LolLolLolLol:

just got my bel air last night 4 days from ebay purchase to on my door step form hong kong... now thats service  black top and orange sides for £20 happy days.

you want a nice half link chain on there Zips

question: what rings can you run on the DXR. obv. shimano but i find they are normally made of butter and cheese, can you get the middleburn hardcoat ones like on the XTR?
Title: Re: New Race Bike
Post by: HEYWOOD BMX on October 08, 2008, 11:20 AM
Supercross and Profile now make 104 bcd rings...
Title: Re: New Race Bike
Post by: dialledbikes on October 08, 2008, 01:52 PM
Most people run Saint rings on the DXRs, Crooch.

I started out with a 36T Middleburn, then a 41T Saint, now got a 42T Middleburn.

I also echo your thoughts on half link chains, much stronger than regular chains and also look nicer.  I'm using a Shadow Conspiracy one on my cruiser.  There's a new race specific (i.e. lighter) half link chain on the market in the US (made by FormCo I think) but not sure anyone in the UK sells them.

Post by: mr.magoo on October 08, 2008, 04:55 PM
was thinking the same thing, semi laid back post and long reach stem....don't sit down, you won't reach the bars :LolLolLolLol:

looks very nice, very very nice, but i'm still too old school, something odd when cranks are larger diamater than frame :idiot2:
Title: Re: New Race Bike
Post by: jazzyje on October 08, 2008, 07:04 PM
looking good zip and the right cranks for that frame.those forks are without doubt pig ugly and just because their the new rad bit of kit, doesnt mean you have to use them.they look like old motomag forks to me.
put profiles on your dialled as its proper frame.

I'm looking forward to my knee getting better, so i can see how my freeagent budget bike compares against you big budget guys.

Damn forgot, i'm not allowed to race competitively.....NO MORE INJURIES SHE SCREAMED!!!!!
Title: Re: New Race Bike
Post by: Zippy on October 08, 2008, 07:48 PM
Thanks for the comments guys.

I have already got a set of Profiles in the colour that the frame is going to be powdered in so I may pop them on and see what I prefer.

Your right about the forks looks wise but I can't believe how light the bike is compared to my old school Robinson.

Might see if I can get it down to Hersden on Sunday for a quick trial.

I've always been fascinated with these micro block tyres and on tarmac they're unbelivable.

I am toying with the idea of running a more traditional bigger block tyre up front and using the micro blocks at the back.

So far I've only ridden it up the street and back but I did think about popping up to Herne bay for a couple of quick laps, it's getting too dark too early though. I'm hoping to hit Hersden on it on Sunday if a pass is forthcoming from the wife. :LolLolLolLol: However she found out how much it cost today so we'll see.  :-[

Right the bike had it's first outing at a track on Sunday and I have to say I was a bit nervous initially about the tyres but let me just say they are grippier than a very grippy thing from gripsville. I was a bit tentitive initally but let me assure you they are very, very good indeed.

Billy gave me some good advice on setup as it's been a long time since I've raced a cruiser and I've been on the old farts bikes for far too long.  :LolLolLolLol:

Have to say I'm very happy with how it went and think I got the parts just right and don't plan to change a thing for the foreseeable future (well until my new frame turns up anyway ;))

That bike was the mutts nutts in the flesh, gutted that i couldn't have a ride on it, more gutted i couldn't show it what a budget build freeagent could do :LolLolLolLol:

Absolute quality build, very jealous, think i'm gonna get a flat and spend all my money on bikes instead :crazy2:

Great racing too, so close, apart from Billy...way out infront :4_17_5: (Come on knee get better) :2gunsfiring_v1:

I had lots of fun yesterday and loved the racing. I've always said I'd rather have a cracking race and come second than have an easy race and win.

Darren you were fair mate. Your a big bloke (everyone is compared to me  ;D) so you don't move when I lean on you.  :LolLolLolLol:

I have a new stratagey for next year though as I'm not going to be able to bash the bars like I expect some to try.  ;)
