who sells the proper ones or where can i go ?do mongoose still make retro pads ?
-
which pads are they??
-
Hey Dix - yep mate they are the wrong pads if they are for that supergoose mate :(
You need the old vinyl fellas with press studs for that frame not the nylon velcro ones - and they are rare and expensive (welcome to goose building ;D)
Good luck mate i've paid more for pads than the frame on some builds :LolLolLolLol:
Here's the fellas (they were available in red, blue, yellow and black and came with 2 different stem pad types - the ones shown are for an ashtabula goose neck stem):

dam im not gona find no black ones am i :(
cheers for the info ;)

You never know mate - they do turn up from time to time. Another way is building a set one pad at a time - slow but rewarding :D They do turn up as individuals - can't say i've seen too many in black though (I think the bright colours were the most popular back in the day) I've only ever managed to get one black mongoose pad (gooseneck stem) the rest are all colours. But if your just building it as a rider you could stick with those new era pads you won or look for some blank vinyl pads (no goose logos but at least they are era correct) the 1979-80 catalog showed blank pads available to buy so you could go that route - US ebay is your best bet for blank vinyl bmx pads - again it's random when they turn up (but they do) and are usually a lot cheaper than mongoose ones. And then there is always the wanted section on here to post in - you never know.......
By the way if you want to keep your goose build true check out the mongoose catalogs at vintagemongoose.com - http://www.vintagemongoose.com/info/catalogs.php
Good luck :daumenhoch:

generallly i find that the F&F are the easy part of any build
look gold stem prices, stainless steel stamped bars, mongoose saddles
and of course snakebelly tyres :(
but that said theres always bargains out there :daumenhoch:
-
yes kev - frame and forks are definitely the easy part :LolLolLolLol:
I've got 3 gold stems now and all of them came with partly built bikes / frames and all are pretty clean with good decals so i reckon i got them for a steal - watched a few go on ebay for crazy money not even in great condition. Same with the SS bars :idiot2:
I doubt i'll ever buy a gold stem individually just too damn expensive - I think i'll just stick with SR MS422 stem's covered by a mongoose pad for a standard build ;)
-
What bobafett said ^^^^^ , source the pads seperately mainly on ebay.com . It will most likely work out cheaper & the finding of parts is half the fun of this hobby , don't rush it .

finding of parts is half the fun of this hobby
Yes i think that's the part i'm addicted too :LolLolLolLol:

I think those pads would look right on dix's supergoose - as for if they are actually really blank mongoose pads it's pretty much impossible to tell - I certainly wouldn't pay the buy it now price but if the shipping was OK on them then the start price isn't bad for a full set of era correct pads.
-
Dix - post a pic of the pads up as I can't access ebay from work. I might need a set if they're the '83 to '85 period ones, so I'll buy them off you.

yeh my bad on that one :-[
-
Dont worry Dix the right ones will turn up at some point :daumenhoch:
-
Noticed those blank black vinyl pads went with just 1 bid on US ebay - did you get them dix ?
If not try these - not the right era though as these are 83+ pads - it's not my way of doing things but i've seen people put 'em on old gusset frames before and they look ok - i think there might be a couple in the museum with them on ???

yeh im watching them buddy
i may go for them your showing me :-[
im just waiting for a reply of a guy who makes retro pads same as they are supposed to be in vinyl ,if he can do them
if not i will get those type off ebay
what ive really been after is black vinyl with white mongoose writing ????????? blue are about red but no bloody black ::)
-
Was that you boba that snapped up that red pad from the US? Bargain at $25 :daumenhoch: Have you seen that yellow motomag he is selling. He said i could have it for £200 shipped but ive got something else lined up now ;)
-
Yeah beagle mate - mint lookin pad that red one - I had to have it :daumenhoch:
Saw the motomag - I wanted him to split cos i'm after the stem and bars but he was asking silly money - If you go for it i'll buy the stem & bars off ya :LolLolLolLol:
As for the repro pads dix i have got one set that came with a bike and i've toyed with the idea of getting another set cos they are lovely, but the vinyl does lack that bumpy irregular leathery texture and the colour isn't as deep and shiny - but for a rider, and for the price you probably can't go wrong with a repro set - as for a show bike i think they would only do until the real fellas came along ;)
-
Hmmmm, what are is the stem & bars worth? It may be worth me getting it if i can get some money back as i only wanted the frame. Maybe we can work something out between us? Pm me mate :daumenhoch:
-
you got mail ;)
-
I like the cali, nice colour option :smitten:
