I heard that Mr Air did his first 4X race today and finished third or fourth! :daumenhoch: I take it you liked Chicksands then Bill? I wish all the BMX tracks were built on that kind of hill with those kind of jumps.
Hope a few more BMX'ers will do some 4X racing/winter training at Chicky this winter.
-
I'm sure Bill is hooked, he had a great time & did really well, Joe liked the place too as he could do all the other stuff there between races. ;D
-
Yep really enjoyed it Mike, it would have been a 2nd behind Keith but I tried to keep too low on the second to last turn and slid out when there was a fair bit of daylight between me and the other two riders, stiil a great day though :daumenhoch:
Oh and btw Mike I was riding a Dialled that Keith lent me too :daumenhoch:
-
Nice one Bill. Chicksands is a treasure. BMX could learn a lot from that set-up.
I thought you'd have been riding your new DMR. But glad you did so well on the dialled bikes Holeshot :daumenhoch:
-
When Bill first rode the dialled he said 'i cant work out why its so much faster than the dmr?' :coolsmiley:
-
How come you weren't on your Holeshot, Keith?
-
I let Joe ride the DMR, Mike, cos it`s only a single speed :daumenhoch:
-
4x is great, have done a fair bit of it myself and love it, used to do it on short travel

So you had the good bike, Bill ;)
FWIW, my current 4X bike is single speed, 24" wheels and just a rear v-brake. Will probably need to fit some gears and a front disc brake before the next race. I lent my fully loaded Holeshot to someone last year and it got nicked from outside his garage! It had some top parts on it as well, Rock Shox Pikes, Avid discs, E13 Light Guide, Saint cranks........ :knuppel2:

Ace results fella's
Really Glad you all enjoyed it Bill and co,
Also well good to see you guys on Saturday at Mr Keiths...(thanks for that)
Rock on fellas
Dave

Was talking to James Humps the other week about maybe doing a bit of 4X over the winter , have'nt a clue how to go about it though
-

Mick Ridgeway lives in Eastbourne & he attends all the 4x races so maybe you could hook up with him? I think James C would like to have a go as well, you just need a small hardtail mtb (like a 26" cruiser with suspension forks), the tracks are like bmx tracks with air ram gate etc but the main diff is they are on a hill some are quite steep but most are mellow, lot less pedalling than bmx but much higher speeds, but as Bill found out the ground is a lot softer when you crash.
I think he had 5 or 6 big offs but didnt even get a scratch or bruise!! :)
First thing to do is come & ride at chicksands with us or my place se if you like it? (you will)
-
Cheers Keith , I have a 24"singlespeed with sus forks , will definately pop up to yours sometime and give it a go , thanks :) :)
-
There`s a 4x race on the 9th Nov in Dorset at the UK Bike Park, we could all have a go at that one :daumenhoch:
-
They have an uplift service there at weekends Bill, so we should get down there for a session either this weekend or next, i think its very diff to chicksands in that its steeper so you'll need a front brake, & also its more natural & not graded so will be rougher, also the tyres we are all using might not be right (i think my garage has enough tyres in it to keep a big team going though!!)
Get lil humps & Mike@dialled & anyone else that wants to go together for it also?
-
Can`t do this weekend but next shoud be fine :daumenhoch:
-
Bill. Ive got a set of Continental Gravity 2.3's in my garage if you want them. Might be a but fat, but UK Bike PArk does get slippy. If your racing there, I may come down on the DH bike, to ride the DH tracks, and big ladder gaps...... :)
-
Thanks Matt, anything that helps is appreciated as I`m not all that clued up on the 4x stuff :daumenhoch:
-
I think the pictures show that you are really Bill!!!
The one of you in the final shows you ahead of the no.1 & no.2 riders in the country for your age group! :2gunsfiring_v1:
Stay on next time though eh?! ::)
-
Keith you`re the fastest in my age group, and I will be trying hard to make you number 2 :LolLolLolLol:
-
Beat me & you lose the bike!! ;)
-
I`ve got another one now :daumenhoch:
-
Great to see you both racing at Chicksands.
Makes it more exciting knowing there's some proper BMXers showing them how it's done !
Me and Faze7 Dave almost thought about having a go next time, then we woke up. We'd both need to put a lot of time into it, even to finish any where near the others.
Respect.
-
Looks like fun :crazy2:
I am in the process of putting together a bike so might join you all at Chicksands soon :daumenhoch:
:) DINGO :)
-
That looks like a lot of fun.
Now where can I get a bike from and join in. :LolLolLolLol:
-
Zippy, the "winningest" frame in UK 4X is hanging on your shop wall ;)
My own personal 4 bike is little more than a BMX cruiser with sus forks. It's got Comp 3s, no front brake and a rear v-brake. I'll need to get a front brake and new tyres before Dorset if I'm to do that race (though not sure if I can make it yet).
-
I fancy some of that :) always liked the idea of 4x plus it might step me up a cog or two in the jumping game :daumenhoch:
Only sold my old kona scab a couple of months ago coz i thought i'd never use it again now i've got erm did have a decent cruiser. :LolLolLolLol: How much for a reasonable 4x bike then? i could do some proper damage to myself on them :LolLolLolLol:
-
You and Jason would love it Lee, I recon you`re looking at 400-500 for a decent secondhand bike :daumenhoch:
-
sticking my nose in, trying to be helpful, cantride has just put an mtb that looks like a 4X (to me, but i know nothing) for 270 on Talk.
-
Yes i am, its a dual slalom bike nice for 4x ;) ;)

£270 ono

what gearing would you reccomend?
my bike will be used for a bit of 4x, bit of xc hacking and a bit of jumping
I am gonna run a standard mtb cassette and single ring up front, is 36t low enough up front?
:) DINGO :)

sounds about right that dingo,i run a 36 tooth on mine.
-
I run 36 or 38 they work fine.
-
I had 36 up front and a road cassette on my Holeshot, 26" wheels and 175mm cranks.
On my current MTB I just have 41-18, 24" wheels and 175mm crankis.
-
Once I'm healed I'm going to try and get out on my lovely hand made steel hardtail (not one of Mikes though) as it's only been used once. Keith a session down yours sounds a great idea, I think it will have to be the new year though before I'm up and running agin though.
-
I'm running - 33 and or 32 front - 14 rear (24" wheels)

My 2006 Yeti DJ frame arrived today :coolsmiley:
:) DINGO :)
