Redcar was cleveland bmx's 4th track .......
south bank 1 was where the kart track now is {held 1 meeting on it,due to toxic waste in the ground} downhill start into a dbl downhill berm/s l/h in a r/h berm and iirc the rest of the track was flat
south bank 2 the new A66 went thru it
saltburn next to the golf club iirc just held club meets for a short time
then came redcar
;)
-
there was actually a track in redcar before the racecourse track. it was on the majuba road car park.
i help build the race course track, i was the person who told don (cant remember his surname) where to put the single whoop coming off the first bend on the junior track, and i was the first to jump the pro track doubles even though i was only 12 at the time! lee gibson was the first to fall off! this was all done before the track was completed.

matty you cud hardly call that a track ...... ;)
but i do remember it

I raced at that first track, the double 180 berms were fun and the start hill was massive, wish we had some photos :( The second track is still there (well it's an overgrown wasteland) the new road didn't actually go through it. I know Cleveland BMX ran a few races at Saltburn but I thought that it was a council built track so I never really thought of it as Clevelands own.

Don Robinson :daumenhoch:
I made a scale model of a track for the club out of 5Kg of plastercine when they were discussing plans for Redcar. The track that was built was similar to what I designed but they had to cut back on what I had planned because they didn't have enough dirt. It's a real shame that Redcar was flattened, with a bit of modernization and more jumps it would have been twice as good as it was and it had the best facilities of any track in the UK thats for sure.

Nice vid Paul :daumenhoch:
It's funny looking at that old video and seeing all those long straights with only one obstacle each, it could have been so much, better but that's how most tracks were BITD.
-
They suited my riding though!

Presenting Mr.Keith Bryceland

and Brian Graham is in there too.
-
And Lisa Wright trying for a killer move in the last corner but just missing out on the win.

I know this is an old thread, but would the authors with original pictures (i.e. their own, not someone else's copyright) please drop me a note? I'd like to use some in our community film about historic BMX and I've got very little on Redcar.

Let's put it this way, that's 100% more that I know now that I didn't know before. ;-)
Every Lidl helps (because I can't afford to go to Tesco).
