wonder if any one will hit the buy now button .....
ebay auction link (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Old-School-1985-Free-Agent-Freestyle-Frame-Fork-RARE_W0QQitemZ7213792553QQcategoryZ64644QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem)
-
greg did you have one of them mate :o.
-
Yeah, I've seen the auction thanks Kev. The seller contacted me a while a go through VBMX, not 100% on how the story goes, but I think he had an offer of $2000 then the 'buyer' pulled out after realising the condition (had a hole drilled in the platform and was a bit rough around the edges).
It's still only the 3rd one we know of for definate. I now own the one Greg found and my old frame went to the USA to be paired up with the forks.
Any excuse for pictures.

look better in chrome than white
-
wacky looking frames!!!
nice but not 2k nice!
-
They sure is beefy!!
-
They're very sought after by collectors of early freestylers and also by those who collect VDC stuff. When this surfaced on VBMX there was alot of interest, more than I expected, but it seems to have wained.
I don't think it'll reach the BIN price, but it may well hit $1000. As you all know, it only takes 2 collectors who want it to push the price up.
-
so its 3 known globally - wow
is there any info on numbers produced
or is it typical VDC / Free agent - numbers etc unknown
-
No Idea on total numbers, but looking at the frame number at least 170 were made. That one is a Jan '85 with the later drop-outs and mid-fork pegs. The one I have is an early one (mid/late '84) with campy drop-outs and the high pegs. My old frame was a Nov '84, the forks now matched up to this are low peg forks (same as the VDC freestyle forks only with FA drop-outs).
-
what is a campy drop out?
-
what is a campy drop out?
Heh, it's the w4nky 'pressed' type of dropout people take the p!ss out of on a Team Murray! ;D
-
is that the same as a "campy" hubbed skyway?
anything to do with campognola (as in campy cranks?) :o
-
love them me, very nice
-
i let that go cheap then ?
>:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:(
only joking mate :LolLolLolLol:
-
I'm the VDC man - it should have been mine!!
-
i didnt offer it to any member on here .moose helped me out big style to get the frame and forks and sell one of my rides so i was obliged and very happy to send the frame to him at his price and we both benefited from the deal .i coyuld have put it on rad for grabs but we had verbally agreed to do the deal and we both stick to what we have said .if it hadent have been for moose i wouldnt have got the freeagent at all i dont think as i wasnt sure what it was at all he knew straight away .
-
Must be something wrong with me then, cos I don't like it. ???
-
Hey G....I said that tongue in cheek matey - wasn't having a whinge at you!
TBH, I don't realy like it that much but it would fit nice with my VDC stuff.
What is really annoying is that I saw the original one Moose had on the kings cycles website about 3 years ago when I worked at Tricky bikes.
Tim said he had rung them and they said it was just a test page on their website!! Why the hell he said that I have no idea coz I would have bought it straight away.

I'd like to take this oppourtunity to thank Greg again - the deal was a smooth one. :daumenhoch:
It's funny how I'd forgotten all about the Free Agent from BITD, but when someone posted a picture of the prototype on VBMX, it came flooding back and it became a 'Holy Grail' of mine. :smitten:
I think I've been very lucky to own both the frame and this frameset that I have now. Hopefully it will be built up soon with mostly original survivor parts and some NOS bits. 8)
'Campy' drop-outs are indeed Campagnolo
-
it came flooding back and it became a 'Holy Grail' of mine.
then it ended up in the right hands! :)
-
Thanks Buddy
All I know is that IF I ever have to sell my stuff, it will be the last thing to go.
-

-
What bars were they Greg ?
-
I'd like to ask if you like it so much because of the way it looks, or is it because of it's rarity, or is there a more nostalgic reason ?
I'm not dissing it, just not my cup of tea, and I wondered if I was missing something ;)
Cheers
Guy :)
-
Greg - no problem with the bars, I have some now ;)
Billy - they were VDC freestyle bars
Guy - If I'm honest, I really like it because of it's style. I've always been an odd ball and whilst I love (and own) Haro's, GT's etc I've always been different and that's where the core of my collection lies - 'clothes horses' as Radhab calls them is really what I'm talking about. Let me show you ................ (I can here you all groaning) ;)

Is that pink one yours Phil, that looks like the one that got lost in a theft, then turned up again a couple of months later from the same seller :wtf:
Just wondered if you bought it or was just using the pic :crazy2:
-
Yeah, it's mine. I won it the second time around. Having actually spoke to the seller (I went and picked it up), I believe he was genuine when he said it was stolen.
-
I hear what your saying Moose :daumenhoch:
That red thing is curazeee man :D ;)
