dix, not haveing a pop, but a 600a didnt come out till 83-4, could be wrong
also they are the wrong froks for a 600a,
and if you look behind the seat tube there will be a little triangle there welded onto the seat tube.
i do love a redline,
had a 600a light as fook,
i have the corect forks if you need some :daumenhoch:

how do you work the serial out

shame about the forks  ::)

You can get forks on ebay all day long, and they are cheap as chips  :daumenhoch:

set of bars on ebay right now.

Overseas ( Japan) serial number follows the this formula...

R I = 0 ( 10th letter of the alphabet) as in 1980
RA = 1 ( 1st Letter... ) 1981
RB = 2 ( 2nd letter...) 1982
RC = 3 (3rd etc..) 1983
RD...
RE...

The serial no. on the 600a is the odd one out, sort of ;D

Nice job  :daumenhoch:
What did you use ? Is it a rattle can jobby or do you have access to a proper spray facility ? Looks like a nice flat finish in the pics  ;)
Title: Re: dixes boys redline build (still in progress)
Post by: dix on October 27, 2008, 09:07 PM
hey buddy yeh well first off i tried plastic coat

was ok but diddnt think it was quite good enough :P

so i got a hammerite electrostatic spray gun and used hammerite white high gloss smooth finish
and i was amazed really  ;)

problem is its 39.99 and replacement cans are 14.99

i was sceptical because im a painter my rep tried selling me one 6 months ago and i said fook off

but its prity good  8)

first off i tried plastic coat

I saw that hammerite gun on the gadget show - so it really does work then ? I was going down the plasticoat route myself on a goose frame i've got but i dunno now  :uglystupid2:
So did you have to strip off the plasticoat you started off with or did you just leave it as a basecoat ? And how flat is the finnish 'cos it looks sweeeet in the pics - nice job fella  ;)
Title: Re: dixes boys redline build (still in progress)
Post by: dix on October 28, 2008, 09:26 AM
bobafett i spent 30 quid on plastic coat

1 tin primer
2 tins of spray white (you only need one can
1 tin of lacuer

so yep ive gone the long way around :-[ but now ive found a system that works and i can use it for other stuff aswell

so i got the gun for 39.99 with 1 can of hammerite smooth in with it worth 14.99

it was already primed and coated with the plastic coat it was sound so i went over the top with the hammerite

its much better than rattlecan spraying  ;)
very shiney
not orange peel effect

but not quite as smooth as powder coat !

just wet and dry the frame down
wipe it over with meths
wash it all over with soapy water
let it dry really good
wipe it over with a tac cloth ,tac rag
hoover all around where your going to spray it
 if i was you i would use a hammerite primer  for  a basecoat 1 tin
then spray the top coat  1 tin

im sure you will like it :4_17_5:
i wouldnt do a crap job for my lad ;)
i could have car sprayed it i have the equipment but this is more hardwearing  imo :)

Quick tot up as she stands i reckon £340 ish (depends on what you paid for the frame ?) so with your decals n pads and paint i reckon you've broke the £400 barrier - so come on now did you reeeaally tell the missus how much it cost ?  ;D ;D ;D
