Title: New School Brake Selection help please!
Post by: Nosnod on November 02, 2008, 10:21 AM
Bit of a new school amateur but just building up a Volume for my lads next bike and need help on brake caliper type that I need.

Front is standard hole thro the fork, and rear has mounts on the bottom chain stays with cable guides on top of the main down tube.

So what type of calipers (U, V, AD mount??) do I need and any recommendation for a good set that doesnt cost silly money?

Thanks in advance

yep a pair of 990s would work just so fine  run a brake plate at front to run the 990 on.
stodgy has some nice primo brakes for sale at the moment in the rad shop.

Good luck trying to get a brake plate, every online shop I tried had none in stock and said their suppliers didn't know when they would get anymore in, eventually I got one off of a fellow radster in here.
I'm sure if you post in the WANTED section someone will have one.

Ride in Coventry (Holbrooks) got me one within a week with a 990 Hombre attached to it ready to go for £17.

Paul deals with the bmx stuff and is away for another day or two I think (skating in the states somewhere). Realy nice dudes to deal with.

Put an ad for a brake plate in the wanted section on here there's people who've got these lying around from the 90's.
Or you might wanna go down the forks with lugs en route, No hard sell here but i have a set of cheap forks here with lugs on if you do.
